You're quite right Lenny. I always say that I'm booking by phone to get the age discount.Always been asked if over 60 when I've booked never notice them check at the port.
You can also get the discount by booking at the port but only practical if you live in Newhaven.
And the discount applies to anyone else on the same ticket whether over 60 or not.I have just realised after my birthday last month I must now be classed as an old bugger as I can now claim discount
Yes, that's the same number as I posted in my reply #3 above. The number to change an existing booking is 03448 6090.Phoning The U.K. number does not work. 0330 587 8787 is the number, be prepared for some Franglaise.
My van is only 58 but we are over 60 so do we only get discount on passengers? And the discount applies to anyone else on the same ticket whether over 60 or not.
(The discount doesn't apply to cabin costs).
You only get the discount on phone or Port bookings.Booked this route for the first time last night.
Used the internet and went through everything and was not offered the opportunity to lie to them at any stage in order to get 20 per cent discount.

I knew that bit before booking but also that we werent entitled (we is nippers) and just confirming that it is still not available on the internetYou only get the discount on phone or Port bookings.
They don't (wish to) promote the discounts. Its a feature that was written in the the original contract 40 (?) years ago when the service was taken over from British Rail (who owned the port) by East Sussex County Council and the Dieppe Chamber of Commerce. (I was remotely involved at the time in the feasibility study).I knew that bit before booking but also that we werent entitled (we is nippers) and just confirming that it is still not available on the internet
That won't be a problem. There's ample space at the port.I have an 0630 ferry, and not having used it previously, it says Guildford is hour and 20 minutes away. I am presuming getting there about 0500 hrs wont be an issue with parking like Dover inside the port ? Havent used Newhaven before so looking forward to trying it.
I’ll be joining you 2wks today. Looking forward to free prescriptions alsoI have just realised after my birthday last month I must now be classed as an old bugger as I can now claim discount
Mines February, so will give DFDS a go in May.I have just realised after my birthday last month I must now be classed as an old bugger as I can now claim discount
I haven't had the pleasure of that doubt for 17 years so can't remember, but they haven't requested my DOB when I book at least once a year (by phone) but I presume only from looking at my passport when checking in at the port. I'm pretty sure you'll be O.K. but why not give them a call?Mines February, so will give DFDS a go in May.
Does qualification for the 20% apply at the time of booking or time of traveling?
I've only been asked are you over 60 no further questions, maybe because I'm on their system.I have just made a booking for July using the phone number I posted above. Option 2 gets you to an English speaker. They were very helpful. Asked my age, which I gave and also stated we were both over 60 and they applied a 20% discount to the quoted price. During the booking process they asked for the actual DOB's but, for my parter, she did say "only if you have it". I don't know what the scenario would have been regarding the discount if I hadn't known my partners's DOB. Hope this helps. Safe travels.

We booked yesterday for 28th December. Newhaven to Dieppe ,I had to persuade my wife that BF is getting too expensive. Just under £80 for one way with discount for over 60s. We phoned from southern Spain with no problems. Return in March 2024 wasn't available to book just yet. Weather not so good this year but not the norm. Off to Evora, Badajoz and Salamanca next week and El Ferry Santander March 12th. Another tear gone! When you book by phone I expect they always ask if you're over 60 as a matter of course because people under 60 also book by phone. I haven't actually been asked my age or DOB when booking by phone, probably because I tend to start the call with: "I'd like to make a booking with the over 60 discount".
