Intending to visit when things reopen on way back from Dumfries, but dissapointed that there doesnt seem to be much about my namesake .
Can anyone local assist?, also posible overnight stays with metro or bus access- found a super pub but its on the wrong side of the dual cariageway to catch the bus in centre!
Thanks in advance
Mike and Ann STEPHENSON

There is a site at Whitley Bay which friends have recommended. Had a look in Britstops but that looks pretty barren

Slightly off topic but topical

Go to St James Park, the way they have been playing footy it is akin to parking the bus

Try The Dyvels in Corbridge if you are coming down the A68 way. They used to allow stopovers prior to lockdown. It is right next to the train station and is 40 minutes right into the Central Station or Metro Centre. Nice town to visit too. The tower next to the church is a really interesting pub. Good luck and safe travels. 👍

There is a CCC 5 van site at Wylam. It's called Stephensons Arms (It is not a pub) It is a few hundred yards from George Stephensons cottage on a nice riverside walk.
There are several good pubs in Wylam and of course a station, you can take a train into Newcastle city centre, Metro centre or to Corbridge/Hexham.
We sometimes use it when down there visiting family. It can be very busy during peak summer weekends with campers though.

Another vote for staying at The Dyvels Pub in Corbridge as it’s right next to the Station.

Ref Stephenson history, George Stephenson’s birthplace is a small cottage on the old wagon way in Wylam which like Corbridge is a lovely Tyne Valley village.

Wylam is where the Wylam Dilly and Puffing Billy originated at the Wylam Colliery.

There‘s also a small railway museum at Wylam, but I’m afraid I don’t know ref opening.

In Newcastle, there is the Discovery Museum in the city centre, and Stephenson Steam Railway over towards North Shields.

There’s also a lot of steam railway history at nearby Beamish.

There is a large car park just east of the city centre by the cycling cafe. It is on the north bank of the Tyne.

We have stayed a few times as our son is at Uni there.

Free to park and 10 mins walk along riverside path to centre. There is a pub very close by (The Tyne Bar)

You sometimes get a few boy racers on the evening but they are back at home with their mums by 11
