We are in our first season of campervan travel and enjoying our first UK trips, but are feeling adventurous and are planning 6 weeks in northern Spain (possibly Portugal too) late Sept/Oct - if any kind Funster out there has a ferry friends and family code to share it would be very welcome ( we are thinking of Portsmouth to Santander route).

Be flexible in your plans. Northern Spain is known as Green Spain because of the rain it gets. We love Galicia but given it faces the Atlantic it does get "British weather" at times. You should be OK in September but going into October you may get a bit damp and of course all the campsites will be closed. There are aires but not a huge number. Enjoy the trip. :)

Thanks for your advice. It sounds like we may need to be flexible in our planning.

Is it best to book the return ferry now as we will take one of the last sailings back from northern Spain, or keep options open and book the return from Spain.

Book two singles, you can then alter the return trip online. If you book a return you have to do any alteration by phone and they charge £35 or thereabouts.

Would recommend Sanxenxo near Pontevedra there’s a good campsite in Portonovo close by. Plenty of Albariño vineyards close by in the area of Rios Bajas

Always remain flexible in your planning...Green Spain is our Summer Retreat. away from the heat of the southern regions..

What's the name of that site? I can see a couple there, Boavista and Playa Canelas. A little further away is Camping Paxariñas where I think we've stayed before.

Norther Spain in September is wonderful. The main season is over but if the weather is kind it’s great.
We had no problem finding Aires.
Enjoy 👍

We have been across northern Spain in late September and October only ever had the odd day of rain, temperatures often reach 30°. We don't use sites, plenty of Aires and wild spots.
Have a look at my trips links I my signature.

From memory we stayed at playa paxarinas
