Hello all.

I'm so excited to be part of this community.

My husband and I are taking the children ( aged 2 and 4) around France ( Marseille, St Tropez, Cannes and Nice ) Northern Italy( Turin, Milan , Venice ) and back up through Switzerland. We will take 3 months.

Can you please recommend any campsites that are good for families and young children ? Perhaps with a playground and swimming pool?

I would be so grateful.

I hope someone can recommend sites but using some of the websites such as ASCI / Search for sites/ others that people use will help you be informed about such sites.
The Caravan and Motorhome Club as well as the Camping and Caravan Club have continental sites.l

Appreciating we all motorhome differently, but campsites wouldnt be on my agenda as I prefer free to 20+ euros a night. We use the WIld Swimming in France 2nd edition book and free aires
Last year we did a month in Provence and here is a link to the journal https://www.motorhomefun.co.uk/forum/journals/blog/a-month-in-provence-throughnal.347/
Having been to all the places you mention we didnt return to any of them in that month as, for us, there are far better options. I would stay away from Marseilles but try to enjoy les calanques where a campsite would probably be the best option.

When are you going? We use a mixture of aires and campsites and out of season use ACSI sites.
Never taken them abroad, but my grandkids, now adults still rave about the good times they had.
Have a lovly trip

Just keep reading this forum and you will soon get lots of ideas. I dont actually think the kids will care whether on a proper campsite or free park up, there is so much to see. lots of villages in france have really well maintained parks, with swings, slides etc so moving around gives them fresh challenges and parks to play on. where are you travelling from and to (in terms of the crossing) which might help offer some potential stop overs and when you intend travelling? ACSI can offer some great discounts but usually just out of season, so might not be relevant for you, but outside of 'season' you can get some great bargains.

for every three or four free nights, you get chance to spend a couple of nights on a campsite, which really does spread/reduce the overall cost, gives you a chance to relax aswell. There are plenty of washing machines available throughout France at supermarkets etc, so load them up and go shopping!

i too would also stay away from most of the cities (some are not motorhome friendly) in France but you have so many options ..

Most Continental campsites have excellent facilities for children, pools / playgrounds / animation etc
ACSI card will be useful for out of season discounts, what time of year are you going ?
Bear in mind the SoF sites in particular are extremely expensive in peak season and will likely need booking well in advance

The place my children still talk about (they are adults now) had no extras at all but was a short walk to a beach and a jetty so they spent hours trying to catch fish!! They also talk about the site with the Newfoundland dog which kept rescuing them from paddling in the sea!!!

In France you will find so many things are child friendly. Also if no pool on the campsite/site/park up there may be a municipal pool nearby.

It will be a wonderful experience for you all and I hope you enjoy every second.

We also have the Spanish one, if I can find it we will be using it this year as well.

We have the alps version too

Absolute gold dust and I have an interactive Google map of them if it can be proven you have bought the book.

We took children, only campsites we ever stayed on were one in Holland and the second in Switzerland. So much to do and see if you keep moving. 2-3 nights most in one location.
