im a not so newbie
Not having been to a Retro for a couple of years I’m wondering which one to book this year.

We used to enjoy Newark, attended a few times, as it was a bit smaller and no itinerants.
Also being shared with Warners I’m wondering what it will be like.

Attended Newbury but there was some hassle with itinerants and didn’t feel totally at ease, pre Covid.
It was also bigger and you seemed to struggle for seating/table in the tent for dancing at night.

Interested in your thoughts, not bothered about the travelling as we are about equal distance between the two.

Only Newbury this year.Newark is now R&R I believe. There is a post on here somewhere

I’m sure Newark is still Retro but in with warners.

I’m guessing the type of show is similar as before looking at the entertainment.

Our understanding is that, in the past, Warners had struggled to get good acts so had been asking the Retro organisers to supply & run the evening entertainment presumably resulting in the collaborations for this year. Know from having marshalled Retro in the past there was then heavy duty 24 hour security needed at both venues not just for those with tickets but for those who may try to get in without permission but Newark dates coincided with another large event then so less problems but don't know if this is the case now.
All showgrounds & similar venues when open for events run the risk of takeover by unwanted visitors - it's one of the things marshals may have to consider when running rallies in certain locations too.

👍

I enjoyed the Newbury Retro Festival last year, but it was not spectacular in terms of performers etc. The main arena had a balloon lift each morning, and a single balloon glow on each night. There was a youth motorbike display team. And that was it really. There were no parades, vehicle processions, steam traction etc. The 'wings' element advertised was completely absent. The 'steam' element was just one (or possibly two?) traction engines which were hidden away at the edge of the fair. The dance tents were very good, and there were some good music areas. I wonder whether the 'arena' bits were affected because of the exceptional heat of the weekend. Again, it was a good weekend, but to be honest I've been to big 'van meets' before which have been much cheaper and have had much more going on.
I'd probably go to the Gloucestershire Vintage & Country Extravaganza (South Cerney Steam Fair) this year instead.

That looks a great event! Shame it clashes with Drax meet I am already committed to.

Thanks

I like to look around the displays etc.
Main think for me is the entertainment and dancing at night though 😊
