I'm new to this game.
My previous holidays have all been hotels or rented houses etc.

Now we have our motorhome, what do we fill it with? What's essential to take and what are the luxuries? All ideas gratefully received.

Alan

Gaffa tape
usual clothes
pots pans
drinks and treats
(we always had a treat cupboard …………cos were on holiday lol)
hope you enjoy your adventures
best regards pampam🤓

Just imagine using it, fancy sitting outside in the sun? You will need chairs and perhaps a table. Fancy a cup of tea? You will need a kettle. Going to use the gas hob or will you hook up to the campsite electrical supply. You will need a kettle for the gas hob and a separate electric kettle plus the long cable to connect the van to the electric supply.
Just carry on imagining the various situations and what you will need.

When we first started we printed off a really comprehensive list from a site called Ourtour.co.uk. We didn't take everything but it was a really good check list. Don't forget to think about the weight of things, a good idea to get yourself off to a weigh bridge so you know how much weight you have to play with. Enjoy your travells!

I would say though either take the minimum or if you don't use it in 3 trips take it out. For example we have never carried or wanted an electric kettle!

Start with the absolute basics you need to survive then you can gradually add the extras you need until you end up like the rest of us carting a load of junk around we rarely use.

You will probably need table and chairs for sitting out in the sun, leveling ramps if you must be level, not essential but you don't want to spill the wine.
Hosepipe for filling fresh water, you may need an extention for the waste or a bucket in case you can't get to a proper emptying point.

You also need to take into account your payload, once loaded best to get to a weighbridge and check the gross and each axle weight to make sure you are legal.

Just think of all the things you usually found in those rented houses and hotel rooms, find light weight plastic versions of all of them, then double the price of them and you'll be well equipped.

That is until you start reading MHF and you'll then realise that you need a victron controlled dilithium crystal power plant as solar is now old hat.

A tool kit. I bought one from Argos for about £12 with everything I've ever needed in 15 years - have a look at what you get in each set offered before deciding which to buy. Ours has, amongst other things:

Scissors, stanley(type) knife, (really)small screwdrivers, 'ordinary' screwdrivers, sockets, assorted screwdriver heads, pliers, allen keys, and so on ... it's amazing how much you can get in one set in a neat box for not much money ... and as already mentioned it's very important to have gaffa tape, which we've used a number of times when nothing else would have done the job.

The great thing about campsites, is that you can always knock on the door of anyone and ask for help, or for the loan of some essential. 99 times out of 100 you will receive help or at least a pointer to someone who can. As you have found from your short time on this forum, we love giving the benefit of our experience!

I take a note pad and write down stuff we need next time. There's usually some jobs to do and any ideas I have.

I think your van is 5 tons so you can take pretty much anything you want to (within reason..). Just make sure you have a C1 licence.

Beware of your weight restrictions.
Don't rush out and buy loads of stuff, use bits from home until you know what you need.
Take as little as poss specially clothes and shoes.
Above all have fun and enjoy it!

Not necessarily all down to payload not the weight of the van, loads of 5 ton vans without a lot of payload.
