I applied for a new passport last Thursday 19th . Did it all online paid my £80 and have just received a email saying that my new passport has been printed and will be posted in the next couple of days. Absolutely brilliant service.

Did mine over Christmas - all done in 5 days! In fact, I had a text saying it had been posted, and a courier hand delivered it 2 hours later. I think more of the civil service should be working from home…

The cynical side of me (which has grown this last 2 years) thinks its because the heating bills have gone up so much its forcing the so and so s back to the office. I have noticed in my area not so many cars on drives now.

Same her in the middle of Covid when all the reports were you couldn't get them for weeks. Ditto withbDVLA.

I just applied online today for a new one, I'll have to post the old one back to them tomorrow, I hope mine comes back as quickly.

Speed of processing passport renewal seem to depend on which office deals with your application.
Both Mrs Else and myself send our old passports by second class (tracked) post on the Monday. Royal main said both were delivered on Thursday of that week.
Bootle office said they had received and checked Mrs Else's old passport the same day, The Hemel Hempstead office took nearly a week (following Wednesday) to acknowledge and check mine.
Bootle took a further week to issue Mrs Elses's passport, Hemel Hempstead has taken nearly three weeks and counting for mine.

Applied on 1st Jan (to my horror, i noticed my passport had expired in 2021 - wasted covid years!) and new passport received on 21st Jan. Kept well informed at each stage via email and text. Good service!!

We had the same experience. 9 days from application and the passports arrived yesterday. Well done to those dealing with them. What a difference from the horror stories of last year.

So, old passport posted back Monday 30th Jan, new one received today, Friday 3rd Feb, £75.50 very good online service. Unfortunately prices went up today by a few quid but still a quick turn around.

We completed our applications online on 19th January and received them in the post yesterday. They each had different passport office addresses on the forms, but reading the information it said that we could send our old passports to either address as long as we wrote the application number on the envelope.
