MH
Swift Escape 674
Exp
2020
Our new MH a Swift Escape 674 has been delivered to the dealer and we're going there to have a look round and start making a list of things to buy.

We will check it for obvious bumps, scratches and tears, are all catches good etc but from a new vehicle delivery inspection point of view is there anything particular we should check?

TIA

You need to check everything inside works. Water system, gas systems etc. Check any bed mechanisms and take notes of how to work things especially the control panel.

When we got our new van, everything seemed to work OK. The only problem we found was that although the fridge worked OK on gas it cut out after less than an hour. Easily missed in the PDI .
The dealer fixed to problem next day. Thankfully no problems in the 20 months since

Make good notes at the handover and ask questions, you will otherwise forget most that was said. Check that although new, it has a damp report. At my dealers I have seen new vans that have leaks from plumbing.

After the handover take just as long to do everything yourself, by yourself, make sure you know how it all works.

We have the same van and we love it, loads of space and storage and a very good payload,
My advice ....make plenty of of notes on the handover or if nobody minds film the things you not sure about on your phone , if it has the drop down bed above front lounge check it comes down and goes up smooth and that it has had the extra support straps fitted on the last recall. Some owners have had issues with this but not us. Swift Command panel is very easy to understand and use,
I’m sure you’ll love it.
Kind regards Darren

If it's been only just been delivered to the dealers as a specific customer order, yesterday or today, and you're going for nose over the weekend don't expect too much, they probably won't even PDI it 'til next week, don't expect the boiler to be fired up or the battery to be fully charged, if the leisure battery is connected that is.
Just as with other motor vehicles many systems aren't active pre PDI... radio's etc. It's not like buying a van you've seen already in stock on a forecourt or showroom. About the only thing they'll have activated is the keycode for the doors and ignition.

If you opted for the roll out awning that will have been installed by Swift at the factory although extras chosen such as their TV package, bike rack etc is fitted by the dealer so probably won't be installed yet.

This is normal practice so don't worry, but certainly highlight chips, bumps, scrapes, loose/untidy wiring, poor fitting locker doors and all catches, wardrobe etc... Build the bed in both lounges... look how well the pull out slats work on the bed in the rear lounge, check window & roof light seals and fasteners.

Any issues you find, list them, have them agree to and sign for making good all the snags pre handover.

Lastly... Enjoy your van, good layout in the 674.

Strangely until you pick it up, nobody has loved the van as you will, it is just a thing they have handled many of. Components may not have been checked as an owner would have done. so the real PDI check is you. The seller wanting an easy handover will have checked the van over but there are far more bits and pieces that may concern you but are not really vital to the vans ability to operate. At this point in time the seller is happy with his profit and will be willing to sort out small as well as major problems that you would not bother them with later. The ball is in your court until you drive it away

You won't really know if anything's not right until you've tried it in earnest. Check that everything works at the dealership. This should include gas. Then arrange to use it a couple of nights, not far away (on your drive will do). Then do a trip with a reasonable run, for the kind of purpose you intend to use it. If anything needs attention, a good dealer should sort it out for you pretty swiftly.

If possible don’t pick it up at the end of the week and stay over somewhere close on the day you pick it up. If you have any problems overnight, you can go straight back to the dealers.

Picking it up in March to get a 2020 plate so will aim for a Friday pick-up to get 2 nights at a local site, which the dealer advised to do. Blakemere and Lady Heyes are close by so will try one of those and we're only an hours drive from the dealer anyway.

make plenty of of notes on the handover or if nobody minds film the things you not sure about on your phone, if it has the drop down bed above front lounge check it comes down and goes up smooth and that it has had the extra support straps fitted on the last recall.

Dealer said we can video and we do have the drop down bed so will give that extra attention.

Just ask the dealer to check everything and let you have a copy of the check list and any outstanding issues.
Thats what there paid to do

ask if the van is free of loans/debts against it
it maybe new
but they may well

BORROW the money to buy it to sell to YOU

And pay a bit of it on a CREDIT CARD

I am afraid that will not offer you any protection. S75 of the Consumer Credit Act only applies if the total purchase price is between £100 and £30,000. I suspect that a new Swift motorhome will be over £30k to buy.
but would it cover the first £30000

im not sure !!

according to 596, you need to check the sealant on the outside is neat and there are no gaps. Send your wife up on the roof to check that too

Lots of excellent advice on here. A good dealer wont want to rush you through the handover.
Dont forget to ask about weights and payloads. Now would be a good time to put it on a weighbridge when it has little or none of the paraphernalia that you will build up!

Get a 'Bill of Sale' which will be evidence in future of your ownership, which for example you need to carry on board in France. The V5C specifically states that it is not proof of ownership.

Picking up our new Motorhome in early March. Should we be given a gas installation or safety certificate? Any other safety or standards compliance documents?

A dealer local to us started stocking the swift escape models and within a few months suddenly stopped, when I asked why the salesman said because of poor build quality and that swift called them escape because that’s what the parts do when you drive them around!

Check everything, twice, good luck.

Never heard of it having a gas certificate. The Gas Regs do not apply to motorhomes unless you intend to hire it out.
I insisted on a gas cert when purchasing our new motorhome. I’m in the mobile catering industry and mistakes can be made even on a new fit out.
