Fiat Bessacarr
Hi, I have replaced the leisure battery on my Fiat Bessacarr. When plugged into the electric it looks to be charging but as soon as its taken off charge the voltage goes to Zero. Any ideas ? I have read that it could be a fuse ?

Hi there welcome
I don’t know your van cuircitry but I would expect there to be a fuse in line close to the leisure battery.

Have you checked all fuses

There is this 40amp orange one near to the leisure battery , doesn't look blown but then I am not great with these things!

How do you know it’s charging? How are you reading the voltage

It looks blown to me, you need to remove it and test it with a multimeter.

When the electric is connected and the green charge button pressed on the Sargent psu, if I press the select button it shows leisure battery 13a but when I take off charge it goes to zero

Change that fuse if nothing else to eliminate it from your problem.
But I think you will find it’s the problem

The fuse has definitely blown. It is a Maxi blade fuse and should look like this when intact.

The green light on your charger is just saying the the charger is on.
(and would be charging the battery if the fuse was OK)

The charger is acting as a power supply and keeping your leisure circuits powered up at 13 volts.

I'm sure as others have said it's the fuse. But note it's not 13A, it's 13.7V. That's the output voltage of the mains charger. I don't know if your setup is able to measure amps, but if it was, I'm sure it would read zero for charging the battery.

The reading you are getting from the panel is the charge voltage from the charger when on hook up and not from the battery, as others said your fuse probably has gone…
