Jim We’re heading north on Monday so might be able to pop into number 1, it will depend on timings. I have a hospital appointment on Monday morning and the van is booked in for hab service at 1pm just outside Glasgow, if I’m out the hospital quick then we’ll have time to pop in. If not we will be passing the following weekend so could possibly do it then.
Does the owner know some stranger might be taking photos?

Just noticed the first one is on SFS and has 15 photos and 30 excellent reviews

We stayed at Lee Garden Farm last year in August for one night. Lovely place among beautiful trees. The owner who is a fellow motorhome owner told us they have a resident owl, although we weren’t lucky to see it. Nice and peaceful place to stay.

Jim - Can try and get over to Killin and up to Kingussie next week sometime if that helps? Can't be precise about timings or dates for now though.

Jim I’m just heading off now and if traffic is ok we can pop in and take a look at the CL for you, I’ll pm you my number and if you text me to confirm it’s ok to pop round.

OK Heres another Proposed CL in Scotland. Can anyone take a look for for us.

We need to know if the access and egress is safe, if any neighbours might be miffed, and any facilities they might have. Cheers

Jim,

As per #5, will you let Brae Lodge know someone will be visiting? Do you have a phone no?

Brae Lodge, tomorrow.

Any time tomorrow afternoon (y)

You you could see that the entrance is safe in and out, we'll need to know if any neighbours might be put out, we have to contact them if they have near neighbours. We don't insist on any facilities, but see what they have regarding waste, water etc. A few pics from your phone would be great too. Many thanks (y)

Brae Lodge
Ardeonaig
By Killin, Perthshire FK21 8SY

Visited today, here's the scoop.

The Lodge is at Ardeonaig, the mid-point on the south side of Loch Tay, which is 7-8 miles from Killin. For those unfamiliar with the geography, Killin is at the south-west end of the loch, and is thus not an indicator of the lodge location. The main road traverses the north side of the loch, and a minor road traverses the south side. This is the one you need to use. From the east end at Kenmore the road is essentially single-track so quite narrow, with no formal signed passing places but there are numerous spots where traffic can pass. Occasional large traffic, domestic oil tankers, bin lorries etc. is likely to expect motorhomes and campers to reverse as required. This shouldn't be a problem for campervans and PVCs but will be more challenging for larger motorhomes. The road in from the Killin end of the loch is still single-track, but has better passing places, and the surface has been retarred in places. I'd go this way in my 7.5m A class (but it does have a reversing camera).

At Ardeonaig there's a hotel that's being renovated and due to open by July - take that info with a pinch of salt. Opposite the hotel there's a T-junction. Take this road uphill away from the loch. The lodge is around 0.7 mile further uphill, so the hotel is walkable for those who don't mind hiking uphill after refreshments. This road is also narrow with drainage channels across the road, so take care.

Now for the background. The lodge was originally a hunting lodge, but was donated in the 80's to the Abernethy Trust which has several properties in Scotland used for residential adventure breaks for youngsters - until Covid came along. The lodge used to accommodate 60 kids in 17 rooms, supervised by some 30 staff. Sadly this is no longer possible for the forseeable future (how long is this!), so the trust are hoping to attract visitors to an aire located here as a means of generating some revenue.

So here's the potential good news for us. Access into the property off the road from Ardeonaig is easy. Just look for the Abernethy sign on the left and proceed up the drive past the house. There is a caretaker who can direct you from there - I did not ask what days/hours this person is on-site, but she doesn't live in. My guess is there is level hard-standing for up to 10 units. Parking isn't visible from other properties so I cannot imagine neighbours wopuld have a problem with this - after all I guess 60 kids would be potentially more disruptive. The only issue I could anticipate is increased traffic on a narrow access road. There are two EHU points. Fresh water is available, as is a drive-over grey waste point, and an indoor toilet can be used for black waste disposal.

Further, there is an indoor games building including a huge sports room. There's loads of land surrounding the house, including a couple of points where an open pit fire is allowed. To the front of the house there's a large grassed (well mostly mossed) area with a super elevated view over the loch. There's just one additional hard standing here for the first person to arrive and not requiring EHU! There are red squirrels around, we spotted one in the garden.

I believe the price will be £10 per night, or £15 including EHU, but visitors should check for themselves. If this aire becomes a reality, folk will need contact details etc.

I'll post some photos later...

Can anyone help with any of these four ?

We stayed at the Cavendish Arms Motorhome pub stop right next to Embsay train station and got the steam train from there to Bolton Abbey station.
Nice pub stop, lovely food and real ales, about 2 minutes walk up the hill to the station.
It’s a lovely location, beautiful original railway station with original timber buildings, the access road in and out of the railway station is huge and will take any size Motorhome in fact there was a Motorhome staying in the access road overnight when we we there. Also a truck staying overnight.

When we went there was a station staff member staying in his caravan at the station, plenty of room to turn and park up. This was before it was a designated stopover though.
30 minute walk into Skipton from there but a bus stop 30 seconds from the Cavendish Arms so only 2 or 3 minutes walk down the hill from train station.

Beautiful walking country right on the doorstep.
