Hi all. Yesterday I called in at Ocknell Caravan and Camping site to have a look at their facilities in the vain hope of running a meet down here in the New Forest.

They have a Rally Field, but of course you'd be camped in and amongst the trees so it doesn't feel like a field exactly.

It is magnificent, it even has a separate picnic sort of Area which the rules say that a Gazebo or similar can be erected on. There is enough room for at least thirty units and they'll do a deal for MHfun.

The deal is £12.00 per night per unit with 2 adults and up to 4 children. Not bad I thought.
They have a toilet block, drinking water and black waste sluice.

The down side is .......... No EHU and No Shower block so apart from the occasional boost pack or Genny this wouldn't be the ideal place for those who can't manage without sparks.

On the plus side, you probably won't be able to get TV reception or WiFi because of the trees so do you really need the sparks.

On the plus side the cattle, deer and ponies will be peeping at you from every tree so the entertainment would be on foot or cycle.

I took these Picture yesterday from the road and you can see the general camping behind the critters in the distance.

I have no idea when this would occur, it might not be until 2016 maybe just a week-end before Jez & Lins Dorset meet or Mo's Bagwell meet assuming they happen again. It could be earlier.

I'd like to gauge initial reaction, numbers and perhaps suggestions as to when? I'd also like to hear from those who wouldn't attend because of the lack of electric.

So your views please.....yes I mean You!

I would like some of that.... Just love the New Forest...

Will be tied up a lot this year,,,, so next would be fine...

But will go with the flow..

Good Luck hope you pull it of..(y)

.

Long way to come for us, but I love the new forest, I would come if the dates fitted with when we could extend the trip in that area, no problem re lack of EHU

 Would join you on our way from IOW to wander around the mainland. Dont often stop in New Forest overnight which is a bit of a shame really as it is beautiful, so a meet there would be perfect. Pretty much organised our various travels from now until end of year so 2016 would be a better time. Fully self sufficient so dont need EHU . Hope you manage to sort it

If it to be next year I'm sure we would be interested (y)
As long as we eventually get our new van by then
For a weekend no EHU shouldn't be a problem.

It's a fair old run for us northern mob and it would be good to go back into new Forrest we have not been since late eightys when kids were little

Now it looks like we're cooking with Gas, thank you for your replies, of course quite a few are already on Mo's Bagwash Farm meet so they won't have read it yet, but this shows signs of going live.

Depending on when we would be interested as we always have a week away in spring or autum so a weekend here could be fitted in.

Just one question of this is the new forest where is the old forest.

YES PLEASE!!!!!.......any excuse to be down there:clap2:

Just one question of this is the new forest where is the old forest.

Okay Gerry, do you remember when you were Newly Weds, before you spawned that beautiful young lady; Yes, well you were quite young then but you lovely wife still called you her "Old Man", now the same is true of the New Forest, it is of course very very old, in fact Mo was asked along to the opening ceremony when he was turning forty, but "New Forest" is just it's name as my "Old Man" is just your name when spoken by your delightful uver'alf.

By the cringe, how would you Scots cope if you broke away from the UNITED KINGDOM?

So to cut a long story short it's not a new forest :):)

I don't want to put a downer on things..... but feel it would be amiss not to mention a dog disease related problem at the forest.

We live fairly near the New Forest and would love to spend time there but there's been instances of what the vets believe is Alabama Rot which has killed a number of dogs after visiting the forest. I don't know if the disease is still prevalent but it may be worth checking before taking your dogs there.

Sadly it is still with us as my very close friend lost his springer spaniel just two months ago and it was confirmed that it was the New Forest that was to blame, the area down close to the Avon down near Fordingbridge is to be avoided by dog walkers.

This is a direct albeit out of date publication from The District council.......

Alabama Rot - an unexplained dog illness
July 2014 update

The number of dogs affected by Alabama Rot seems to be decreasing as the year progresses with the last confirmed case being in early June 2014.

A manuscript summarising the findings will be submitted by veterinary specialists this month with publication anticipated later in the year.

What is Alabama Rot?

Alabama Rot is a disease that has been known about since the late 1980s in the USA. Since December 2012 a number of suspected and confirmed cases have been seen in counties throughout the UK. Dogs reported with the disease can suffer kidney failure and/or skin lesions. The cause of the disease remains unknown. The disease does not appear to pass from dog to dog.

To see cases to date, please visit Broken Link Removed

Although the problem is being treated very seriously, many thousands of dogs are walked in the countryside every day and it is important to remember that only a very small number of dogs have been affected.

Next year we'd definitely be interested - depending on dates. Lack of EHU no problem as long as we can still get some daylight on the solar panels with all those trees.
