Decided to try out the new multi-million-pound m2 Bristol metrobus route that launched to much fanfare last month.

It goes from the Long Ashton Park & Ride site - part of the way along a new purpose-built guided route - into and around the city centre. It also passes the Caravan and Motorhome Club site on Commercial Road.

But the main reason for posting, is to highlight that the front page of the timetable states:

"1,500 Free parking spaces at Long Ashton P&R, with no height restrictions, so it's suitable for motorhomes and other large vehicles" (my italics)

"Open from 5.30am to 10.45pm Monday to Saturday, closed and locked at all other times"

It's completely free for bus pass holders, otherwise £4 for a day's ticket that includes other buses around the centre of Bristol.

There will eventually be three Bristol metrobus routes: the m3 from Emersons Green in to the city launched some months ago; and the m1 route - which has not started yet - will be from Cribbs Causway into the city.

Interesting - thanks for the link Graham.

To my knowledge, there are just 3 Bristol Park & Ride sites and according to the information on the Bristol City Council link above, motorhomes can park at all three - BUT it further goes on to say that 2 of them (Portway and Brislington) have 2.1 metre height barriers!! Doh... :( So not much use to any type of MH other than a pop-top campervan.

So it appears only the Long Ashton P&R has no height restriction and motorhomes are positively welcome to park there (but not overnight).

Just be wary round Bristol, I got a fine for driving in the bus lane on my way home from Shepton Mallet. It was Sunday and the signs all say 0700-1000 Mon - Fri. But somewhere just before the camera they change the signage to include weekends? I'm currently in discussions with Bristol City Council to see if I can get my fine re-paid.

The height barrier on the Brislington P&R means that I leave my MH at home and walk 15 minutes to a bus stop where I can catch the X39.

Bristol isn't exactly car-friendly either. The City Council has waged war against motorists since the 1980s.

There are four, details linked from the page I highlighted.
Apart from those three there is Lyde Green, North East of Bristol.

I stand corrected - I think Lyde Green P&R is perhaps new(?) and been developed mainly to serve the new m3 metrobus route(?). It's not on the same scale as the 1,500 parking places at Long Ashton, 1,300 at Brislington and 500 at the Portway, but useful nonetheless. Thanks for the correction! :) I've only lived in these parts for 30 years, so I'm something of a newcomer - well that's my excuse... ;)

Lyde Green Car Parking
Parking is free. There are 246 spaces, 16 disabled bays, 24 cycle spaces and one motorcycle bay.

Yes, Lyde Green is the location of the new metro M3 terminus. It is on the other side of the ring road from Emerson’s Green which is the second stop on the bus route. I haven’t checked it for height barriers and suitable long spaces but I will make a point of doing so next time I go to Emerson’s Green Sainsbury’s.

Lyde Green is where there ought to be a junction with the M4 but the planners messed it up.

Too true, and wouldn’t that help with the traffic jams around the M4/M32 junction and around the ring road between that junction and Emerson’s Green!
