netbook for the Van- Super deal

It says refurbished at the bottom of the advert !!

my present laptop is a refurbished model, i got it 2 years ago from dixons with 12mths warrenty and have had no problems with it, why pay full price if you can get what you want cheaper, and the smaller one i use when away in the van was also a refurbished model had that one over 5 years

Morgans are the main outlet for all HP refurbished stock. I have used them for years. All items come with manufacturers warrenty. My desktop bought from them so long ago that the software disks are no longer available, yet HP collected and reinstalled everything when I had a problem caused by a virus. Super service. But then Yank company what more do you expect. Now how would one hook up to a solar panel, hee hee .

1gb of RAM to run Win7 ain't a lot.

I upped my netbook to 2gb and it flies

I used to be a fan of Morgans years ago but then became a bit wary. Warranty is only 3 months and the N270 processor (whilst very good) isn't the most recent.

Link Removed from PC World looks to be quite good. OK, you don't get the external DVD drive but they are only 25 quid.

With only 1 gig of ram its going to be very v-e-r-y s-l-o-w.

Pretty certain Acer are made by /under licence by HP if so then the acer with 12 mths g/tee and a external dvd drive (which the morgan one has ) is the better buy with a better chip-

Is that really the case with Windows 7 Starter Edition rather than the full OS? Looking at the netbooks on offer in PC World & Comet, the majority only come with 1GB RAM. I would have thought that would not be the case if they were all going to be slow with that spec.

I was not thinking of the OS except that you my need to install some of the missing functions that a cut down win 7 will give you.

What I had in mind was ram hungry programs such as Skype and DVD playback programs that lots of ram to process the video.

Doug...

The Acer sounds good but it only has a 3 cell battery so maybe around 3-4 hours. Not much more than a laptop and the only reason I would have one is for the battery life in the van. The HP is 6 cell so probably between 7-10 hours.

The 270 chip set is old hat. All new netbooks use N450-N470 chip sets. Most stores are finding it difficult to now give away the old N270.and they are new with a 2 year warrantee. If it looks cheap then it probably is.

Fair enough.
