Burnster T695
Good Afternoon

Newbie here and I am LOST!!
I have just bought a burnster T695 motorhome and want to replace the 3 smaller skylights / roof lights (different people call them different things) in the bathroom , above the bed and in the main cab at the back as they are feeling a bit brittle.

Currently the roof light that is in the van is a Remitop Vario 1 400 x 400.
Doesn’t seem that many places stock these to do a straight swap. I’ve also been told by one caravan parts / dealer they no longer make the Vario 1 anymore.
However leisuredirect who sell them on their website say they have nothing to say they have stopped being made however they are made to order and cannot guarantee how long this will be.

Remi also do a vista roof light which is also 400x 400 but the roof thickness is not big enough
So my question is…..

Can I replace these roof lights with ANY 400 x 400 roof light as long as the roof thickness is the same as mine or within the perimeters ?
I live in Scotland so I don’t want to come into my van one day and it’s full of water as it doesn’t fit 😂

Also what kind of sealant do people use round skylights? It seems to be a black colour so I’m thinking roof sealant?

Heiki do one that will fit. You need a flexible sealant for the installation.

The crank handle mechanism on my skylight seized so I replaced the 400 x 400 skylight with a Seitz Mini Heki from Jacksons Leisure, which has a much simpler opening mechanism.

Note that you need the version WITHOUT Ventilation for a MH.

There are also 2x options for roof thickness ..... 25-42mm and 43-60mm

I found the original factory-fitted Skylight reasonably easy to remove as they had used a non-setting mastic. After removing the internal fixing clamps, I used a putty knife to cut through the mastic, and peeled the skylight up. I then used a Silicon Sealant solvent to remove the traces of old mastic.

I used this white Non-Setting Bedding Mastic for the re-installation. (Also available from Jacksons)

I have had delivered today from jacksons leisure a heki 400 x 400 rooflight to replace the omnivent that's fitted, you will need to get the roof thickness with some careful measuring and then choose appropriate skylight from the available options, also if going for heki you need the none vented version.
The black sealer you mention is most likely started life as white, jacksons recommend using sikaflex 221.

There are lots of options for a 400x400 skylight, it's a standard size.

I've replaced three skylights over the past few years. It only takes a few hours. What makes it much easier is if you're skinny enough to work through the hole, and there's something to stand on while you work.

Have you considered fitting a MaxxAir?

I used W4 Mastic and sealed the edges with Sikaflex when I fitted a Maxxfan to replace a 400x400 Heki.
