I'm trying to pick up an extra connection from one of the multi-way plugs/sockets on the top of my Pilote's Scheiber bloc. The manual calls them "Car Connectors" and the pinout diagram call them MCPs. which doesn't narrow it down much. I think they might be AMP MCP connectors but I'm not sure. Anyone worked this out before and know where I can get some extra pins? Here's a (slightly blurry - sorry!) picture.

Thanks, Graham

You will probably need to extract one to get measurements and there may be suppliers online or a local auto electrical supplier.

DAF Truck dealers will keep a selection of pins as we regularly add accessories such as light bars etc, and it is cheaper to repair a loom than replace. Here is a selection with part numbers of the common ones we keep in the South West which may help, if you find something similar and give them the part number they can give you dimensions and wire sizes.

I love the blobs of glue where some have been removed, trust an engineer to take the quick way out of getting a part.

Actually a really handy bit of info, I have downloaded the photo for future reference, thanks.

Forgot to add, the wire seals would also be available if anyone needs them and most of the connectors are AMP on DAF. If there is a part number on the plug we may be able to cross reference and supply that as well.

Right, taken the plug out of the socket and now I can see it is an AMP connector, and I can even read the part number on it. which leads me to work out that this is the contact I'm looking for: https://www.te.com/en/product-CAT-AM705-T273.html?r=2&compatible=8-968973-1

All I have to do now is find someone that can sell me a sensibly small number (i.e. less than a reel of 1000, or a strip of 100!) and send them quickly for a sensible cost. Currently digikey.co.uk look favourite, just need to check the part number. If Steve can supply them, that would be great!

Next challenge is working out how to get the contact in - it appears that you might have to take the whole plug apart, as it has some sort of locking tab on the side. I feel a YouTube coming on...

Finally, thanks for the picture from BaileySteve - I'll be downloading that too!

I’d say that looks like 1840828 in the picture, there are likely two tabs, one each side. If you haven’t got a set of terminal removal tools the smallest precision screwdriver will normally allow you to get down the side from the terminal end and push the tabs back.

When you come to order, these could be available for different wire sizes just so you are aware. If I get a chance will get the technical drawings, although this may be on Monday.

I do have removal tools, only cheap ones from eBay, but I was hoping not to have to take an existing one out - unless I mess up my new wire!

Good point! As well as different wire sizes, they're also available with different platings according to the TE Connectivity (as AMP are now called) website so there's lots to choose from... According to te.com these are the only ones that fit that plug type that are still "active" as they put it - I presume that means available!
1-968851-3 for 1.5 - 2.5mm cable (silver plated)
1-968853-1 for 4mm cable (tin plated)
1-968853-3 for 4mm cable (silver plated)

There's also a tin plated 1.5-2.5mm (part number 1-968851-1) but that's not listed as fitting, although I don't see why it wouldn't if the silver plated one does.

TE also have a handy list of distributors specifying the minimum quantity you can order, and Digikey seemed like the only sensibly priced one, however even though they are based in the UK, like all the others apart from Farnell and RS, they ship directly from the US for a £12 shipping fee, without a guaranteed delivery date.

So in the end, I bit the bullet and ordered them from RS (note that the TE link takes you to the German RS!) as they offer next working day delivery. Shame about the price, but I've ordered 10 of both sizes so I'm ready for the next job!

Here’s the terminal that looks similar to the picture in the link you posted, as you can see 1840828 is for 2.5 to 4.0mm wire and there are three other numbers for other wire sizes. What would be really helpful is the numbers from the AMP connector to cross reference and hopefully find a plug part number, the terminals would be easy to find then as we are guessing at the moment. If you do get the pin extracted a photo and dimensions would be handy as well.

DAF normally supply these in packs of 10, 1840828 is £1-40 each plus VAT and most are around the same price, usually available within a couple of days if not stock items.

Think our posts have overlapped. 1-968851-3 does cross refer to a DAF number 1878948, would be special order in packs of 25 at £0.22 each plus VAT.

Indeed that does look like it might be the right one, however without a statement that it's equivalent to the AMP/CE part numbers, or a technical diagram to compare, I'm not sure. Anyway, I've ordered the "real" ones from RS now, and I didn't really want 50, I had to order ten which was more than I need! Mind you, at that price you could try one out and send them back if wrong!

Thanks, Graham
