West of Nantes on the northern side of the Loire estuary is the Presqu'ile de Guerande which is a relatively small area with a beautiful coastline and many small coastal villages that are not too overdeveloped. Le Croisic, La Turballe,Piriac sur Mer, Mesquer/Quimiac and Guerande itself is a small town with intact medieval walls.
La Baule is at the centre of a 4 mile crescent beach with the resorts of Pornichet and Le Pouliguen at either end.The area has many camp sites and lots of aires, we spend 3 months of the year in the area, September is probably one of the best times to visit as the French season will have largely finished and there should be no problem with either of these alternatives. Weather not guaranteed though, it is Brittany, but usually OK in September - hope so we'll be there then.

Highly recommended

Decent aire at Saint-Philbert-de-Grand-Lieu just south of Nantes

Next to the river by the park.. and it's free.. but no ehu .. no size limit and no limit on length of stay

There is also an aire in Nantes.. centre of the old town.. we tried to get in but were too big (another tale of woe ) but fine for Euro vans , no idea of cost but will be listed in an aires book or campingcarinfos

If you are prepared to travel a little Saumur is nice and the best aire in france (in my opinion) is 10km south at Montreuil-Bellay. You also pass through Angers on the way there. It's a two hour drive to Saumur.
