Names

The previous one was "the van", but this one is "Hymie" bit obvious really but suits us fine!

Previous have always been either the Moho or the van but our new one is called Pearl as she’s pearlescent, an old gal who fits the song Pearls a singer and more importantly seen and purchased on our 30th wedding anniversary!

Our motorhome doesn’t have a name - it’s just called the van. The collapsible wash rack, however, does have a name! I was hanging the washing out on a campsite in Spain when a Dutchman approached and said “Madam, you have a lovely rack!”. It’s has been called the “lovely rack” ever since! :D:D

CJ as the I in CI looks like a J, but we also refert to it as the van.
Sat nav's John's is Tom and mine is floss. I have always named my vehicles and my sons still refer to them by name rather than make when we reminise

We had a Commer based Autosleeper pop top with the reg MMJ so 'he' was Marmajuke (yes I know it should be a d!).

I know we named our Elddis but can't remember what it was as it didn't stick!

Our Swift Suntor was FE51 PEO so was Peony

We had a Chausson Flash 04 and at the time I watched the TV series 'Without a Trace' starring Anthony LaPaglia who my Mum called 'chubby chops' so as the Chausson was quite chubby (2.3 wide) it was known as Chubby!

Since then we've had PVCs so they are just called 'the camper'.

In a related vein, can any linguists explain why in English, where most nouns have no gender (unlike many other langauges), ships (and other vessels) are generally regarded as feminine? e.g. 'She was a fine ship'.

I tried calling our previous van Harvey ( the RV ) but it didn’t catch on . With the new one we don’t bother , just “The Van “ or ‘t motorhome.
Yes!! I wondered how original I was being.
Our MH is Harvey :)
Just so I can get passed people asking how our RV life is going

At 8.6m long & 3.3m high ( & being Scottish) ours is called NESSIE , well it is a monster ?

Named by my granddaughter Granddad's house on wheels .
Shortened to HOWI.
"House on wheels innit"

It's not a living thing,,Its a van.We call it IT.BUSBY ?

Been pondering this for the last two years!
We call ours "The Van" but being a German Carthago & Googling German Female names, the nearest I could find that sort of suited was Carla. However Its a name that doesn't with me anyhow conjure up any concept of Fun, which we have on the number plate.

So What do think guys, let me know if Carla is OK,hopefully someone has met a Carla in the past and maybe had some Fun with her :D(y)

Because most mechanical things can be awfully temperamental, particularly older aeroplanes, as I well know.
They may be beautiful, elegant and a joy to behold but when they decide to have a touch of the ‘vapours’ you just have to live with it.

We love ‘em really, both human and machine.

Richard.

I mentioned earlier in the thread that I don’t have a name for my van, but I did see a car registration while travelling down to London yesterday, that ended ‘YYY’ and thought it would be perfect for a motorhome called Delilah ?

Just got round to naming ours, thanks to my late in-laws.

I call my Sat Nav “never right” cause it ain’t

My in-laws call the MH Brian (no idea) but my sister-in-law calls it “the motor home my brother-in-law bought for me, but ain’t got the b##ls to tell my sister”

She likes to sit in it and make tea and toast on the drive. She doesn’t have keys for the steering lock, or wheel clamp.

I got into having a moho initially to use it for the Isle of Man TT & Classic TT (accommodation is notoriously difficult to get for these events)

My favourite bend (of over 220) on the TT course is Sarah's Cottage, as a result my van is called Sarah

Our van is an Adria Sonic, sometimes called “Hedgehog“ other times it’s just “the bus”

It could be worse, you could have called it 'Boomer'! :giggle:

Ordered our van in January, started referring to it as ‘The Van’. Then jokingly we started to refer to it as ‘The Virtual Van’ or ‘VV’, as that’s all it was.

Delivery in September, VV seems to have stuck........Vee Vee it is then. (y)
