I read elsewhere that somebody entering Honk Kong was denied entry because the middle name on the passport was no present on the covid certificate. I know Hong Kong is a million miles away from Spain but has anybody made a successful Spanish entry with the middle name anomaly?

My first name is spelled differently on my COVID vaccine certificate than it is on my passport. So far people are using common sense.

We had a mild [ahem] problem at Manchester Airport in 2000 before we married because Elaine had a double barrelled surname yet her passport had only the second half of her surname. There was some debate about whether we would be allowed to fly. IIRC we were able to show other paperwork to that Elaine 1name and Elaine 2names were one and the same person, but it's not an experience I would care to repeat.

Spain may not be such a problem [think Funsters have posted that COVID passport documentation is barely being looked at Ferry ports and, for example, Irish passports [Elaine has one ...] don't include middle names [she has 3 and she entered them on her passport application but it was issued showing only the first of her 3 names!]. But, if you are worried, could you ask your GP to issue a quick letter [or a Solicitor who is also a Commissioner for Oaths] certifying that Lucy Lastic Knickers and Lucy Knickers of 37 Letsby Avenue referred to as Lucy Knickers in COVID Passport Number xxxxxx dated dd/mm/yy is one and the same person.

I was once held up at Brisbane immigration because my visa didn't have my middle name, or my passport didn't, can't remember which... a little more checking done by an affable officer who was aware that I'd been on an aircraft for 17h, so didn't hold me up any longer than absolutely necessary whilst still doing his job.

This was probably 15 or 20 years ago.

Story told only to demonstrate paperwork issues are nothing new when travelling... post Brexit, pre pandemic

My 3 Christian names on my passport are truncated to 1 on my vaccination certificate. No problem with the differential entering Spain or in restaurants and campsites in Portugal where they are shown under various rules.

On a family holiday to Disney Florida I had entered all the Names on the airline website my brother in laws name is Mathew only it’s spelled Matthew oops.
No problem going out but it was picked up coming back stateside but with a long conversation he was allowed to carry on and we caught our flight. phew my bad.

We are in Spain and our COVID-19 certificate only has first name but we have not had to show it here unlike France, but we didn't have to show our passport there unlike Spain so don't think you should have a problem. 😀

That’s a very good point. An awful lot of people are known by middle names. I was on a motorhome tour to Norway two years ago and when we took the ferry from Denmark to Norway one of the couple’s had terrible problems because the wife’s passport didn’t match the name on the ferry booking. The company had taken her first name from her details on their booking form and she’d inadvertently put the name she’d been known by all her life, I’m not even sure it was her middle name. They let her through eventually.

I know when I loaded up my NHS app I couldn’t get the new shiny passport photo to work for ID so had to use my 9year old driving licence which worked OK. My name is straight forward but I can see how minor differences could be a problem there with complicated names. I can’t imagine the USA will be very forgiving at all whereas for now hopefully the EU will be. I suppose only time will tell, I’d be very worried if they didn’t match.
