So pushing our boundaries we have crossed into Spain.
Maybe it just this top corner of Spain but it’s very busy and not at all like the rural France we enjoy.

We went into San Sebastián today. Parking at the arena. Had a lovely walk around the town but on our return the car parking had filled loads of buses with engines running for air conditioning. So we’ve abandoned that and come down the A1 to Beasain. Water waste and toilet. Also free water all good. In the town parking but just about acceptable.
Just a quick question on this sign I’ve noticed above the entrance and exit are the cameras and the sign saying toll but with a lorry. As I’ve set the sat navigation with no tolls it has not let me down as yet. Is this a toll just for lorries?
Also no toll signs or booths. Unsure

If you have a look at the viat.es site there is a map which shows toll roads.

Thank you.
The road doesn’t show as a toll so that’s good. Must be just lorries.
I’ve looked for the sign online but can’t find it. I’m assuming the lorries must get charged hence the sensors. Probably have something on the screen to pay

When we were returning from Portugal earlier this year, we came up via the Burgos to San Sebastian route, and decided to go for the non-toll route A1/A15, but then were a bit alarmed to see the signs for the e-tolls and the electronic toll gantrys, especially as we are over 3.5t. According to the toll map, it wasn't shown as a toll route.

In the end I found a number to call - it sounded as though the electronic toll gantrys had only recently been installed and they said they were for lorries only. They said if we wanted to be sure not to get a fine we could submit a scan image of our logbook to them, but tbh we didn't and so far we've not had a fine through. Next time, we'll just go on the proper toll route.

Thanks. That’s the road.
Apparently I did a Google translate chat with a Spanish motorhome driver. He confirmed lorry only.
We have continued down today heading for Burgos.

Could be LEZ equivalent??

Courier be, but I suspect it's more to deter the lorries from using the non-toll roads up to San Sebastian. It's quite a bendy and in places very hilly route, with long queues behind the slow moving lorries.

We stayed here when in San Sebastián

Area Autocaravanas Donosti

Lovely area , packed in mind you but would use again .

We were in San Sebastian a week ago and a couple of MoHos were using this car park 43.303171, -2.003689 next to Hotel Antik. The entrance is on Zarautz Kalea. They have long parking bays for MoHos at the back, alongside Tolosa Hiribidea. It's free parking on Sundays and they start charging again at 9am Monday. It's on a very busy road but some may not mind that. They are VERY HOT on ticketing non-paying customers but it might be useful for someone as an overnight stop on a Sunday :) Hope this helps someone :)

I read the reviews on that place first and decided not to go.
Although it was late and assumed that it would be full as there was about 20 vans at the arena.

The arena was ok if it wasn’t for the coaches. They didn’t care just sat with engine running and air conditioning blasting nobody on them and there was at least 10
We are at Burgos now car park again rammed in. 45 vans here last night but a good night as the police made a couple of drives past

We’re off to Spain tomorrow via Santander. We go to Santiago across the top to Asturias and then Galicia. Google still says no tolls the same as last year.. the only place we encounter tolls is close to Santiago and that’s from choice because it allows us to take a new road around santiago avoiding the city centre.

Hi, for info, here's the website for the new e-tolls (from Jan 23) on the N1 A15.

Sounds good.
Across to Portugal for us up to Santiago and back across the top. No plan as such as never been before.
Will keep an eye open for the toll. Thanks

Just seen the link. That’s perfect as it states Hgv transporting goods over 3.5t only.

No mention of motorhomes over 3.5t

Shit I’ve seen them coming down the national 1 too, I stopped and asked but nobody knew. But I know the Spanish we’re going to put a toll on all national roads for vehicles over 3.5 ton in 2024 but put it on hold for now because ther economy is in mess

Not seen anything about that. Would it cover motorhome? Probably just commercial as it would cause havoc

My son lives in Galicia and apparently they removed all the tolls in the north, with the plan being to replace them and increase the number. But no sign yet. 🤞🤞

We went into San Sebastián 27th April this year as you did following toll free route. We have a Fulli tag and as we went under the gantries the tag beeped and yes we were charged. Now if we didn’t have the toll tag on I don’t think that we would have had to pay because as far as I could tell it was for lorry’s only. We were charged €9.23 but only came on the account last week.

I did wonder about the toll tags.

It’s a bit like the Dartford crossing no toll booths and the onus on you to pay. Or be unaware and the they make money from fines as well

I’ve no toll tag although over 3.5t so possible I would have been charged as well. Personally I think it’s not far away from being law you must have a toll tag on your car/motorhome.
Big brother and all that.

Will you ask for a refund?

One of my aims s to go from Santiago to portugal haven done it yet .

Saw plenty of abandoned toll booths in Northern Spain last week. All electronics etc removed just the buildings left behind

I recall hearing that anything Over 3.5t is considered an HGV in Europe. Is that true?

How do they tell the difference between A MoHo at 3.85 t and one at 3.5t ? Or a Ducato van at 3.8t and a MoHo on a similar chassis?

Looking a the website it does say that "AT Sistema is applicable to haulage vehicles of more than 3.5 tons" so Motorhomes should be ok?

Depends on the weight of your motorhome
