my vehicle battery is being overcharged when i plug into mains power can any body help motorhome is benimar europe 6000st vehicle is fiat ducato 2.8 1999

Most likely the battery is stuffed or has an internal short circuit or the charger's faulty.

HOWEVER...........if the battery is getting hot and maybe gassing (smells of rotten eggs?) don't mess with it but turn off the charger then when the battery has cooled down remove it and put it somewhere safe. If it has boiled it will almost certainly need replacing now anyway.
Does the hab battery charge o.k?

I'm not too sure what you mean.
The relay operates when driving and the 12v alternator is charging the battery.
When on EHU the 240v charger will be charging the battery if the circuit is designed so that it charges the starter battery as well as the hab battery.
Again I ask, is the hab battery charging o.k. or is that one getting hot - suggesting a charger fault?

Does your controller have an option to choose leisure or engine battery receiving power from on board charger?

Hello and welcome to Fun

You'll find us very helpful, but we do need information if we are to help you.

Can you tell us why you think it is being "overcharged" when on EHU, have you measured the voltage/amps that are being delivered to the battery, if so what were the results, how old is the battery?

It could be that your battery was at the end of it's life and there's nothing wrong with your charging system ( as Sprinkler has already said)

Also, just so that you are aware, as a free member you are allowed 5 posts, after this you will not be able to post until you have subscribed to the forum, it's well worthwhile, you'll more than recoup the subs with savings that you make from forum members help...

Cheers
