Mppt Duo

Most controllers are only able to select one battery type so ideally both batteries should be the same type.

The votronic duo units only trickle charge approx 1amp to starter battery.
You select what type of leisure battery you may have so IMO no you do not need to have same type of battery.
Matter of interest are there/does anyone have a lithium starter battery fitted to there van???

I use the Epever MTTP DuoRacer 30A which like the voltonic and a few others allows for two batteries to be charged . Settings for the main Battery 1 can be normal LA ,AGM, Gel or LiFePO4 at 30A where as Battery 2 is a trickle charge 1A confirgured for lead acid. There is a software update which allows batt 2 to be gel or AGM now acording to their website.

Votronic mppt 250 set for lithium profile.

So far very happy with trickle charge to engine battery but waiting till winter to see for sure.

All the best

Please can you tell me how long you‘ve had the DuoRacer? I came across it today and the spec looks good. Which batteries are you using it with and are you using their remote display? Thanks.

Great thanks all, that answers my question
Yes but incorrectly. the later answers are correct
I contacted Road pro the importer and got email somewhere if required, but quick answer
Bat1 profile is programmed via the dip switches. eg i use Lithium
Bat2 profile is programmed for Pb acid batteries only.

I think what almost everyone is saying, is that with only a 1amp trickle charge going to the starter battery, it does not matter what type of battery it is. Now if you were supplying the starter battery with say 15amps you would need to have the correct profile for the battery type.

Hi
I don't use a remote display as its mounted in an overhead locker so I can see the LCD display. As for the batteries the starter is just a standard Bosch van battery the LiFeP04 is a single 200AH from LiFePower. Its commected to 3 x Marine composite flexible 100w panels. It works well for us. It all been in use since April 21 and no problems so far.

Thank you - very useful! I think I’ll give it a try. Just about to take the plunge on our first solar upgrade on our 2001 van with Varta LFD90 batteries and this looks like it will allow for future leisure battery upgrades if we want to. Starter battery on our van will always be simple lead acid.

That is great, thanks. What controller are you using? As this is the setup I am after for habitation and starter battery.
if this was for me i am using a votronics duo mppt 350 and a duo250 (total 550w solar panels)
edit by the way only the 250 is connected to the cab battery this appears to be sufficient..
