We've got a moura battery as a leisure battery (came with the MH) and am asking should we replace it with a "leisure" battery as it seems when having done a search on here its not really a leisure battery as such but a marine battery.

The couple that owned it before us went away to Spain for 3 months at a time for the last 9years and so where off grid and just used the leisure battery... No solar or EHU or generators..

The thing is I have charged it up twice, first time a full charge then after a week at most it dropped down to half (on control panel) thought it was the new pioneer head unit I installed which seemed to be running on power from the leisure battery and not from the ignition. I have now done a pulse repair overnight and charged it again 13.5v its reading now or there abouts (memory of a goldfish) but over 13v that l know.

Having looked at the top to try an work out if its agm, lead etc it has that little peep hole in top. Green its charge and ready to go, Black an it needs recharging and then yellow its buggered. The peep hole as I can see even after a charge is still black although the charge is over 13v...

So my question or questions are:

Is it suitable for the job intended ie as a leisure battery
Should I replace it and get a Lead, AGM, Gel but not a lithium as way way waaaaaayyyyyy tooooooo expensive for us.. as it shows black in the glass spot..
Keep it and just shut everything down whilst were not using it..

Were prob be more on EHU than off grid but am looking into getting solar later on this year so whats the thoughts or advice that you can give me..

Many thanks in advance

At nine years of heavy usage, it's obviously at the end of its useful life. If lithium is off the menu, I'd suggest Gel as a durable alternative for a hab battery. I swapped to lithiums nearly two years back and still have the 82AH Exide Gel sat in my garage and if you are interested, send me a PM. Still holds its charge sat there for months.

Its toast, bin it and get a new battery, cyberyachts one sounds spot on, Tayna batteries are also great , good service and delivery phone em up..

Any reading on a battery (other than lithium) that says 13V+ is as a result of the charging voltage. You need to come back to it after an hour or so once the chemistry has had a chance to settle, and then look at the voltage. For lead-acid type batteries generally 12.6 / 12.7 is a 100% charged value at rest.
