We are 3/4’s of the way around Sicily, we should visit Etna, but how. Drive as far as we can in the moho? get the train from Catania?
Has anyone visited? any suggestions would be welcome.

Picture for attention, old boys chewing the cud in Ragusa, made us think about last of the summer wine.

Drive up, the road is easy. You can buy a ticket for a trip to one of the craters once you arrive. It isn't cheap but we found it very interesting. You can walk but it's a long way and the top bit you can reach is at nearly 10,000 feet. Visits to the summit crater is by organised trips only and you wear a hard hat. If Etna is erupting these won't happen I guess.

We went up in a bus last year. We were well prepared but a lot of the tourists weren’t so hopped off in their T-shirts and flipflops, they didn’t last long. It was late May and we were in jeans , boots and puffa jackets. I’d forgotten my woolly hat and it wouldn’t have gone amiss! We were lucky, the clouds parted and the views were amazing.
