AutoTrail Apache 700

2018
Well heading of to France shortly for a 90 day trip and decided to get the van weighed at our local weigh bridge. Was just being curious what the van weighed. So we have a Autortail Apache 700 (2017) Fully loaded with all our kit, 2 passengers, bikes, paddle boards, 2-11kg gasit cylinders full, full tank of water and diesel ans weighed in at 4160KG leaving us 340Kg for all that lovely wine:LOL::france:🍾

Its all right for some - Now I'm over seventy we are restricted to 3500kg
Its always a bit tight. We have to manage with a little less wine

Enjoy your trip we'll be right behind you on the 9th April.:drinks:

I'll bet there's plenty of 3500kg vans that are carrying as much stuff that haven't been weighed

Did you check the individual axle loading. Can be under MAM but still have an overloaded axle.

Trick here is to buy champagne as the Bubbles make it lighter
Great minds :clap2: - but being from Yorkshire we can only afford the Prosecco from the French Aldi:drinks:

Where you heading?
What do you like doing?
crossing from Newhaven to Diepp. Stopover at Hornfluer for the first night then heading down towards Bergerac through the dordogne as far as Rocamadour then head down towards the coast at Gruissan then along the coast as far as Nice then make our way up to Annecy then make our way back up towards Diepp.

Sorry what you have just stated“now I am over seventy we are restricted to 3500kg” Not quite correct. I am over 80 and have just had my licence returned to me ,allowing me drive my 3850kg MH with out any restrictions. DVLA has had my licence since about March last year. I had to take two medicals which the DVLA paid for!!!!! The first medical failed but the second I passed with flying colours. My new licence is for three years.

When we were first looking at buying, weight/payload was one of the headline points that an experienced MH friend told us to understand. I think that manufacturers and retailers obfuscate this and leave buyers to find out for themselves. Some new vehicles only have 350-400 kg available which is very little indeed.

When I reached 70 I applied (with medical) and kept my C1 & D1. I renewed it again sucessfully last year.

I just couldn't be bothered with the medicals.
I've only ever had 3.5 tonnes vans and always managed OK. Its just that this new van is so much heavier as standard so less payload. :swear2:

What payload do you have? We’re just getting our first MH at 70 and are stressing about this!

I updated my 3500kg Bailey Approach to 3850kg

About 25 cases of wine!

If you come back on an empty water tank you should be able to get that to 30 cases of wine, which is enough for a bottle of wine per day for the entire year!

If you pay £20 to become a member there is a section about motorhome weights.
Before you accept your motorhome, get a weight certificate from a weigh bridge.

From memory I think the calculation is you need a minimum spare payload of 350kg for a couple.

It is not unknown for brand new motor homes, once the bits have been added (Awning, solar, batteries, etc) to be so close to the limit that there is no real payload at all.

I would struggle with a 400kg payload as we are off grid most of the time so carry a lot extra gear.

Plenty of room for the wine, cognac and bubbly😂
