Hi all. As is well known, motorhomes are not great for traction at the front wheels. I am wondering if people have done Anything to improve this?

I have moved as much of the weight I can forward and I also carry two pairs of sand ladders just in case having been stuck in soft ground before.

Dropped the back wheels into a gully set up for waste water disposal and found the van wouldn't come out when I'd finshed. Asked the wife to come and sit in the front to add weight and improve traction.

I don't think I have ever, before or since, considered my choice of words more carefully.

Thanks for sharing. My biggest issue is out on the roads as when on sites I try to avoid locations I might get stuck but the are good suggestions. Thanks

For traction and grip on a road surface, then it's really down to weight over the front wheels and tyres that have the best grip rating in both wet and dry conditions.

On a more serious note, my Boxer based Autocruise was somewhat skittish when I first bought it, but I Iater found the tyre pressures the dealer had put in were signifcantly higher than they should have been. It helps to have the front ones right, maybe even slightly low, but it's a balance between that and MPG and handling.

Ok great thanks all, very helpful. Exactly what I find. Anyone experience of better tyres to improve traction?

I scan through the EU tyre labelling for ratings for the size I require on retailer's websites and I read on-line reviews of those that have fitted a particular tyre, but my main priority is the wet grip rating when I'm looking for a set of tyres.
You do find that the EU tyre test ratings do vary for the same tyre in different sizes a lot of the time.

I'm on Hankook Vantra LT tyres a present, a good all rounder with very good wet grip, and half decent on wet grass.

Excellent thank you, any side effects since fitted by any chance?

No, they have been a great tyre so far, and a much more comfortable ride and quieter than the crap Continental Campers that they have replaced. (y)

I once got stuck on a site that was on a slight hill, grass was wet so going nowhere.,put it into reverse and backed out of the site no problem.👍

Exactly the right thing to do! Effectively with going uphill and in reverse you are transferring weight to the front (pseudo rear in this case) with a better (probably lower) gear, you are giving yourself the best chance. 👍🏻

Thank you. Nothing on mpg? Just been looking and the price is pretty good. I have 6 tyres Lol

Certainly not worse, but difficult to tell as the engine in our van is starting to loosen up nicely now, plus my boy racer right foot has been tempted away from the floor over the past year. :giggle:

I fitted THESE to my FWD PVC for better traction especially on wet grass as we generally stay on CLs or CSs in this country. I find they provide excellent grip.

Fuel consumption "E" ouch, and road noise 75dB, ........... what did you say, ............ I SAID 75dB.:giggle:

I assume I would need to change all tyres to same not just front?
