I personally wont drive my car to this beach ,Hemmick beach
very steep narrow lane with horseshoe bends , looks like he's having problems
getting up one of the steep inclines this lane
has virtually no turning placesfor a car let alone a camper
copied from facebook 36 mins ago
let you know what happens if & when I find out

I know the road, whilst I'd never drive a motorhome down there, it's not the narrowest of Cornish Lanes, but it is very steep.

If he can get a tow up as far as the house, it levels off a bit after that.
Perhaps reading the signs at the start of the road would have helped.

True - but satnav probably said go that way so wouldn’t bother observing the signs.

I know a lane in Hampshire that has a sign "HGV's Do not follow your satnav down here" . It was enough to put me off.
We have one of those signs near to us on a very busy North to South narrow rat run around Tunbridge Wells, which is especially hell when schools start and finish. And the problem is made worse with too many Chelsea Tractors (often driven by the au pair) who think they do own the road!

It says nothing about motorhomes.
The sign should just state MAXIMUM WIDTH.
Or even better NO caravans or motorhomes.

maybe they’re still in the van, some of these narrow lanes you wouldn’t have enough room to get any doors open even as I discovered with my car, not that I needed to but wondered what would happen if the car went wrong which it didn’t by the way..
Love the narrow lanes by the way, in a car, but you do need to be capable of reversing as so many can’t..

Must have got out some how , as not heard the road closed or anything ., sorry no more news ,
Most of the more rural roads in Cornwall dont have any 6ft 6 width restrictions on them

To be fair. Last July I followed the satnav when driving my friends PVC in Cornwall. We began to sweat a little as the road got really narrow at one point. Got through OK but glad nothing came the other way. This was actually a B-road too.

I don't think the problem is the width.
(Other than, like most Cornish lanes, it will be a very tight fit with both mirrors trimming the hedges on either side)

The main problem is having the power, the grip and the clutch control to do a series of hill starts on the 20% (1/5) slope!

Now that is why I keep weight in the garage to a minimum and put a few heavy items in the passenger footwell!! Fingers crossed I will not find myself on such a narrow lane but I have come across a few 20% hills without problems.

Evidently there's some kind of caution at the top which they obviously never read, why would they read a notice saying NO CARAVANS/MOTORHOMES.
Idiots, hope they are stuck there for a long time. They may think twice then.

There is even a DVLA sign for this

It's very common in the Lake District (Red Bank as an example)
But I have never seen it in Cornwall, despite it probably applying to half the tarmacked roads in the Principality

Yes, but as far as that idiot is concerned he isn't towing a caravan.

What it should say is caravans and motorhomes PROHIBITED and a much larger sign.

Definitely mad to approach from the west but manageable from the east, but only as far as the NT car park then a short walk down the hill to the beach. A green strip up the middle of a Cornish lane is usually a good sign of ‘best avoided’. A bloke in a big A class got stuck there a few years back and continued to the point where he couldn’t open the door!

Google street view shows this sign at the juction where they must have turned to join that road

But my pvc isn’t as wide as a Motorhome so will be fine!!!!!!

I use a garmin sat nav. Rather than say it’s too narrow /steep etc it often says it doesn’t know if suitable for Motorhomes or not.
It’s up to me to decide if I should take the risk.
