We have just purchased a motorhome which has a tracker fitted, but I’m looking for something more visual to deter would be thieves. I’ve ordered a steering wheel lock that has come highly recommended. Does anybody have any other ideas to improve security? I will be changing the lock on the side door as the one fitted looks to have cost £2.50!

Disclock + dead locks on all the doors.

Decent alarm/tracker with immobiliser. Don't rely on the van's inbuilt one, it's literally sub 20 seconds for a theif with a OBD port to bypass the one thats inbuilt in any motorhome (any manufacturer immobiliser will be defeated very fast).

Have a look on youtube for various brands of wheel etc lock as to how effective they are too -> many can in fact be defeated by again sub 10 seconds of effort.

Many of us on here have the Vanbitz alarm, which isn't cheap, but does if specified with a immobiliser come with a decent one. With it enabled you cannot start the van without the actual keys & phone applicaiton if you have deadlocked it. (you can deadlock it so it'll only start if you disable it via a phone app, EVEN with the keys, fob etc).

Should say the most effective option thats visable is to turn the seat 180 (assuming captains chair), and drill a solid padlock between the rear of the seat and the base. This prevents the seat turning, and thus the van being driven most effectively, and visably. A solid metal padlock is also not easily defeatable by a theif with a angle grinder, which many third party solutions are (see youtube as mentioned for examples of how they can defeat things like steering locks, even good ones with a angle grinder).

We have a Milenco bar on the steering wheel that is there for looks and an ATE pedal lock. The insurance demanded we have a tracker fitted and it already had a Thatcham alarm on it. We have a Scorpion 7 retro fitted.

If you cab seats swivel and have the pull bars they can be locked together with a shipping container lock

Get non-factory fitted AIT - Alarm/Immobiliser/Tracker.

VanBitz of Taunton will fit it all in a day, and many many motorhomes have had this combination fitted.

A steering lock is just a visual deterrent, it will delay them another minute.
The VanBitz alarm/immobiliser/Tracker should delay them a lot longer, as in the only way to steal it is with a tow truck or low loader

Spotted an A Class on a drive with the Coach Style Mirrors removed. Looking at it, It would be very difficult to get it out from where it was on the drive without the mirrors.

So I have bought a pedal lock, steering wheel lock, upgraded the £2.50 side door lock, it has a thatcham alarm fitted and a tracker!
Was thinking about getting 24hr security but opted against it.
