We were having a chat with other Funsters in Skipton two weeks ago and were told the Florium dealer said prices were going up by 10% in January. This week I was reading old What Motorhome back issues on Readly and a few had prices in the articles. I picked some and decided to check what they would be now. I tried to compare like for like.

Below is a small example of how prices have changed in 22 months. Just for example so don't shoot the messenger!

Oct 2020-Dec 2022 Increase (rounded up)

Adria Matrix 600 DT £62,900-91,215 45%
Burstner Elegance 910 £118,995-166,265 40%
Sun Living A70DK £49,000-69,995 43%
Autotrail Tribute F60 £45,845-67,288 47%
Eldis Accordo 120 £44,384-69,086 56%
Hobby Optima T65 FL £48,664-76,490 57%
Hymer Free 600 £42,995-74,600 74%
Rimor Seal 12P £46,780-67,595 43%
Roller Team Zefiro 685 £47,490-68,790 45%

I wish my pension had gone up this much!!!!

It is crazy the way prices have gone.
I have been saying for a year that the bubble will burst, but I have been wrong so far.
Getting to a stage now where new motorhomes are unaffordable to most people.
Not so bad if you have one to trade in but for anyone buying for the first time, they are going to think twice about it.
There is one on your list that caught my attention as it was our first motorhome - Elddis Accordo 120.
We purchased a new one Dec 2016 for £38K. Now £69K !!!!!!!

Which of course would/should be the driver to settle prices back to where they should be.

We are looking for a replacement at the moment and have seen plenty at dealers then you Google the vehicle and you can see both the new price paid plus the last
Owner and there are some ridiculous prices at the moment.

On adria twin 2012 was up for 2014 now £37k. 2020 Roller team vans in the dealer new at £42 now up for £50k.

I get new vehicle costs have Sky rocketed but trying to get more than the original sale price and not adding an value (perhaps a warranty) takes some serious cohones.

I had a 2016 Accordo(Marquis Majestic) bought at two years old for £32K. Swapped in 2018 for the 2016 Carthago at £62K. I think new, they are north of £110K now.

Why? The parts haven't gone up that much and neither has there been a wage increase.

Unbelievable,,,,BUSBY.

We purchased our Chausson 711 Traveline new for £55k in Sept 2020. It’s done 6000 miles. Just saw the identical motorhome in spec/ colour etc of same year in two different dealerships with 12000 miles on clock at £70k!!!

Think also where there is a shortage dealers are not inclined to discount,, got 15% off mine but now all I have seen for sale is list!!

Supply and Demand ?
no it is just pisstaking as they are all doing it even stuff that is stacked up for weeks they have just removed the old price & added a new one. Here , the chinese shops aren't even discreet about it.

no it is just pisstaking
Because of supply and demand.
2nd hand prices have also risen dramatically (see above) so private sellers must be selling at the market price (or not selling)
The differential between my 5 year old van and a brand new one was 15K (last year). It appears on the original list. I got what I paid for my original van (well £5 more after 5 years)
I wasnt extracting the urine because that is what the dealer offered, because that is the current market value.

The van I bought last year is now 17-18K more than I paid for my current one, but I suspect I would have got more for my old van

We are in a similar situation, purchased a 2019 Adria Matrix brand new in March 2020 at a very good price. Worth more now than we paid. How does this stand with insurance if it was a write off considering they know what we paid for it?

We picked up a new caravan 4 months ago ordered last year new price this year including extras for the same van is nearly 6k more

Compactline £102k now, £10k up on last year but they have put on £8k of extras over last year including 180 HP engine & 9 sp auto box, but to get a reasonable spec you need to add between £10k to £20k of options. We kept our order fairly basic only added 12k, didn't bother with alloy wheels, oven, electric on the Truma. My mate added £21k to his.

Go on the Adria website comparator (when it’s next available) and spec a vehicle the same as yours and print off the result. In the current climate of stupidly rising prices do it every six months or so to show the trend of prices should you ever (hopefully not) need it. It may help in any negotiations.

Yep same here - I’m aghast by the prices. 2016 we ordered a Burstner at NEC show - (new summer 2017) had many extras so suited our needs perfectly. Seen the exact same model, year, less extras, more mileage at the same dealer we bought ours and it would currently cost £10k more to buy a 5 year old van than what we paid brand new!!! UNREAL!!!!

Our van model is now £64,995. We paid £36,350 in 2014 😏

I wouldn't pay that price now, it's tantamount to pissing your life savings away on a vehicle that will devalue(possibly a lot) and the double whammy of high diesel prices.. Just no 👎

But there must be people still buying those 5 year old vans though, surely the cost of living crisis should have stopped that.

If people are still buying they will get away with any price they want to stick on them.

Remember people, it is a luxury item and rare (in model production terms)
If someone has £70k sitting in the bank and they are looking to get a motorhome then the ' cost of living crisis' is about their fags getting dearer...not real world problems.
The insurance value on my van was increased by the insurer for 2 years and then by me when I swapped companies, all agreed in writing...on a 19 year old swift 🤷‍♂️

We ordered our Elddis Chatsworth 185 in Feb 2022 at the NEC for £57k. Same van today £71k! We wouldn’t have bought at that price and would probably have stayed with the caravan

I've had my new campscout for 2 months and have seen the same spec van on sale for almost £10k more...never expected that kind of price increase

A principle of insurance is that you are entitled to be put back into the positiun you were in before the accident, therefore if they offer less than the market value you can demand that they replace it with an equivalent vehicle, at their cost.

“I've had my new campscout for 2 months and have seen the same spec van on sale for almost £10k more...never expected that kind of price increase”

I’d hazard a guess that that price rise is towards the lower end of the scale of increases being seen. The same spec Adria that we took delivery of on 1st December was an extra £20k if ordered today - an over 28% increase! In fact it’s probably more now because Adria have taken the online configurator down and the dealer mentioned an extra £5/6k increase in the new year.

Its incredible isn't it, I asked if prices were going up for 2023 and got told yes... But I expected that to be salesman patter. I'm just glad I was able to find something suitable, available on forecourt and not have the uncertainty of ordering off book and not knowing when it would be delivered or for how much...

And it probably explains why the adria twin they had on the forecourt was locked with no sign of pricing, just coming soon sign!

Pleased I got a guaranteed price on my order it will seem like a big discount when we finally get the van.

Too true. We went as high as our budget would allow back in October 2021 on the price protected order. If we’d have been faced with the current increase it would have meant a cancellation - which I’m sure the dealership would have welcomed! ;)

They must be affordable as dealers appear to be selling stock as fast as they can get it. Maybe as a result of Covid people are re-evaluating their lives and instead of saving are splashing out, whether it be cashing in pensions or re-mortgaging etc.
It's the same with new and used cars and vans.
