Just looking
I'm going to look at a motorhome this weekend. If we buy it i'd ideally like to drive it home there and then. But i'll need Ins in place to do that. Is it easy enough to set up a quote for insurance and then simply confirm it at the time if I buy ?

You can get some quotes today if you know the Reg no and a value plus they may ask if any extras fitted.
As for taking out the policy at a weekend that will depend on the company and their opening hours. (y)

Example. Comfort only open till 1.30pm on saturday and closed sundays.

I did it with LV a couple of weeks ago , arranged it all on the Friday and just phoned them when I was collecting the van on the Saturday.

Many thanks for replies. I just had a quote from Comfort (others were cheaper but when i've read any comments about Comfort they've been very positive). When I rang to ask the question about activating the quote on Sunday if I decide to buy the van the lady said I could do it online with the quote ref or ring and ask for it to be done.

That appears to contradict what you said tonka but even if you're right about opening times it appears to be a simple thing to just complete online (I hope).

The dealer we bought ours from had 14 day free drive away insurance - we didn't do it as we insured with Adrian Flux from the day we knew we were collecting, but it could have come in useful. I suppose if it was on offer and you took it, you would get spammed to take insurance out with the provider after 14 days, but might be worth an ask?

If it is possible to buy online (like it is with Comfort) then yes, you can do it there and then, ask long as there aren't any stipulations like trackers. Just make sure you put the correct day as starting day and it will probably start from midnight the previous day.

Happy to be corrected and handy info to pass on to others. Never considered the online element. I though you only got access to that once you took out a policy. But good news 👍👍

Some of the comparison websites do now have a section for motorhome insurance (e.g. confused.com). I would recommend checking out one of those before buying any insurance.

I have found Comfort very helpful and easy to deal with. Had to make a claim a few months ago and the claim contact number goes straight through to Aviva who were superb.

Many thanks for all replies and apologies for being quiet for the last 7/8 days. That's because last Sunday we went to see the van we hoped to buy, hence the question about insurance. There was no problem in the end because we didn't bring it away with us having agreed that the sellers would get a new full MOT done. So I was able to set up insurance for the day we collected the van. I went with Comfort by the way. They appear to be good from what i've read.

Anyway, the important question is what van. It's a HYMER B504. It's a lovely van as many of you will know. The layout and size is exactly what we wanted. We did look at C Class vans with overcab beds but preferred an A Class if we could find one in our price range. We ended up paying a bit more than we'd planned as it happens but are more than happy with how things have turned out. The bed at the back is Sue's. It's surprisingly wide given the length of the van (5.99m). And the overcab is mine :giggle:. I picked it up in Bridgwater yesterday and the only negative was the terrible traffic jams on the way home to Swansea.

Anyway, many thanks again for the replies. I'll be posting a few more times shortly looking for various bits and bobs that we now need.

John
