Just got the renewal from the broker, another firm they quoted me for, I got the quote then said is it any cheaper as it’s on the drive but stored in a dedicated secure safe Motorhome garage at all times when not in use.

I’ll contact the insurer and come back to you, anyway a few minutes later he comes back on the phone, there’s no discount whatsoever for that, I asked why and the reply was “ It could be a risk as things may fall from shelves inside the garage and damage the Motorhome”

I went straight for a lie down and 3 pints of Guinness. I’d never thought of that one.

My daughter recently found that out for her car insurance renewal, it was cheaper if she said parked overnight on the drive rather than parked in the garage 🤷‍♂️
When I renew mine I'm going to try the same, bonkers

Surprised.. always thought a garaged vehicle was cheaper...... it is after all locked up and hidden from view..
Maybe because very few now garage their cars and leave them on driveway..
Wonder what differance would be if you said parked on the street as appossed to drive??

My renewal is due, so checked with the insurer about making a change. They then checked everything and decided that the underwriter would not insure the van when parked on the road, but would cover it for in the storage shed and my drive. Means when i bring the van to the house to prepare for going away, it has to go on the drive.
For years and years it has been parked on the road when at the house with no problems.

I think parked on the street will see a rise in premiums, but like you I always assumed garaged was the best option for a cheaper quote.
I'll see for myself what difference it make at next renewal

I once had a broker say to me, when I wanted to insure two smaller vans on the same drive, because they were high value, she said. Which they weren't. They didn't total even one larger MH. Too much of an attraction, she said. Is it the individual you are talking too.? Perhaps if you spoke to a different individual from the same company, you might get a different response?

Think, possibly you getting confused.
When they say you not insured to park on the road.. is that not if you were to declare you are keeping it permanently on the road and not just parking it short term there.

I managed to get fully comprehensive insurance with a 600 Euro excess for 565 euros which I thought was ok, f
When I wanted to increase my excess on my spanish van the agent went yo great lengths, even using a model car,to ensure that I realised that the excess applied to each facet of the vehicle. I.e front, back, each side, roof and underneath.

They said they would cover it for 2 places ie storage and drive but not on the road at the house, even though we are at the bottom end of the cul de sac. The did say at first that they would cover it for 2 days after it comes out of storage while we prepare to go away. But then passed it to the underwriters to check, which they then declined.
Seems weird as we have been with the same company since starting motorhoming many years ago.

I haven't got my campervan yet but I've been doing some research into different areas and Comfort insurance has some good reviews on MF. I've also heard alot of bad things about LV.

Insurance is all mind bending, my current insurers renewal for the end of this month came through at £530 with breakdown in the UK and EU. In the meantime I checked CMC who beat the van insurance part by £25, Today another renewal from my current insurer at £494 with the breakdown cover.
