See a lot of vans sellers using this site. Do they have any liability should a deal go pear shaped, or does that still fully reside with the seller and buyer, and they are just an advertising portal and financial middleman. I have to say I'm wary about turning up in a street somewhere and transferring a large sum to a stranger, guess van sellers also have some discomfort too. There is some comfort in dealing with a business and insistig on using a credit card for the deposit.

Ive sold 2 vans via MHD, quite happy. never bought but they seemed professional enough. They are purely an introductory agent with commision, similar to an estate agent I spose

On and off for many years.
Sold through them and very happy with the transaction.

They offered our buyers a guarantee as our van was checked and serviced by their recommended garages.

We did have a couple of queries from the buyers about the self leveling and the alarm - both queries could have been answered by reading the manuals or phoning the suppliers but never mind.

Our biggest issue was that although we had told van bitz we'd sold the van the new owners took their time in giving van bitz their details so we were notified of alarms a number of times!!

Having sold privately in the past we found MHD were quick to sort out the time wasters and given our personal situation at the time the commission was money well allocated.

I would both sell and buy from MHD in future but please be aware that the local agents are a franchise so service may vary from area to area.

I was going to sell mine through them but too much messing around so just sold it private in the end. It’s easier and cheaper to put on eBay and autotrader yourself imo

The only dealings I have had with them is on the epic long hunt for my latest motorhome (Dont laugh but it took me a decade to find a replacement for the Kontiki (Hank the Tank). A few times I contacted Motorhome Depot salesmen about a particular van and they knew nothing. All I got was "ill have to contact the seller" and it some cases I never heard back. So I would suggest if you use them you give them as much detailed information as possible as a crib sheet.

I bought private in the end and I sold my old van on Facebook Market place in less than 24 hours. Could have sold it six times over. Its still a sellers market so selling your van should be easy as long as you are realistic and open about everything I reckon.

Word of warning about Facebook market place though. Don't give out your phone number, do it through messages. Its pretty easy to work out the genuine buyers from the pond life and scammers.

I bought our existing van through them, although it was only one year old, I paid for an independant habitation report from an engineer of my choice, I am based in glenrothes Fife and the van was in south Wales so needed to be sure it was fit for purpose before flying down to pick it up and parting with my hard earned cash, I was extremely happy with the van and could not fault the MHD guy who picked us up at the airport to view the van and introduce us to the elderly owner who gave us the reason for selling a one year old van with only 1k miles on it, I had negotiated the price of the van down before viewing, I would imagine it was the vendor who agreed to take the hit as I think MHD will look for a fixed fee for advertising the van.

We took a small reduction in the price of ours as we had expected. The reduction (ÂŁ500) was split 50/50 between us and the MHD rep at his suggestion.

2015 for a year then a break. Now a newbie again!
Only bought through them near Nottingham. Good service. The depot I used is now called Rove! (that's their exclamation mark, not mine)

I'm currently in lengthy conversation with one of their agents, would much rather deal with the owner directly, but I understand their reasons for employing MHD to facilitate a sale. Let's just say they're not exactly earning their 10% commission so far.

Did you manage to squeeze any discount on the price, I spoken to a couple and the feedback is "thats the price, mate". Guess the prices are keener than a dealer, so the margin for discount smaller or not existent.

I think there's always a chance of a discount it's going to depend a bit on the van in question how long it's been up for sale how keen the owner is to finalise the deal etc etc. We had a quote from motorhome depot to sell ours I can't remember all the details but I'm pretty sure there was an estimated range for what they would get they come up with that from looking at adverts and trade values so it can't be a presice science!

I think we took just ÂŁ250 less than the amount we said we wanted for ours. The discount given to the buyers was part from us and part from MHD. The buyers also bought various odds and ends directly from us so really we got what we wanted and didn't have the hassle of selling awnings, kettle etc.

Yes. Initially they offered just over 1% off the asking price which did make me laugh. The van had been for sale for 3 months.
Eventually we agreed on a figure we were both happy with and I collected it from NI a couple of weeks ago.
I'm used to dealing with private sellers face to face, and found the whole process very frustrating to be honest. I understand why people use them, to create a barrier from timewasters etc (which I'm definitely not), but I'd personally rather cut out a middleman and get a deal we are both happy with. MHD offered nothing more to me as a buyer than a private sale would in terms of warranty etc etc.

We used MHD precisely because they vet the buyers and weed out tyre kickers.

We'd just had a full service and belt change on our van, new tyres and all the receipts were available. We paid for a hab check at MHD's choice of workshop. MHD provided our buyer with a finance introduction and a guarantee ( not sure how much a guarantee is worth in real time ).

I would use MHD again but understand Plynchy that dealing through them may be frustrating for more experienced buyers.

I got my van through motorhome depot. I just did the deal there and then with the agent and seller. Made my offer, they discussed between them. Then deal done. No messing about.

That was my experience as a seller. All queries from interested parties came via MHD so no phone calls from scam merchants at silly times.

Hi,

We bought ours through them. No hitches all questions answered by the broker honestly. Asked for further pictures before we travelled 230 miles to look and these were supplied. Even pointed out a small defect to us.
Went and looked all good and a further 2k knocked of the original price.
Would we buy again through them, yes we would.
Obviously there probably are some unscrupulous agents out there, but then so are there in motorhome dealerships as well!
Do you homework and sure you will be ok.

Did you negotiate a provisional price before going to look, did you knock it down the additional 2K because of discovered issues?
I ask because my thought was as the broker, if someone has travelled 4 hours+ to look at a van, they already have the "hook" in the mouth... and discounting would be unlikely

To answer your question, no we travelled there at the price advertised, but offered 2k below that after looking at the motorhome, the broker went inside to talk to the seller and came back with a yes he will accept that.
So we done the deal, and as mentioned elsewhere the seller also threw in a lot of bits and pieces they would have no use for as they were giving up motor homing due to age.
Hope that helps.

Mark & Jill.

We bought our motorhome through them and there was a large amount of finance on it which needed to be settled. MHD make sure that happens via a client holding account, in which you pay them, and they then pay off the finance directly before handing the remainder to the seller. It's a good way to make sure things aren't going to take a bad turn.

I'd use them again for buying or selling.

Yes. As I was travelling via flight and ferry to view/buy I wanted to know what I would be paying before I travelled, as long as the vehicle was as described, which fortunately it was. Does save any awkward negotiating once you're there as well, unless there is anything glaring wrong with it, in which case I'd walk.
Some sellers I have dealt with over the years are reluctant to do this, which I understand, but if I'm travelling several hundred miles I won't leave the house if I don't know what I'm potentially spending.

Same for us. Would definitely use again. We looked at a couple vans in different areas, and obviously different Brokers. Eventually purchased through North East area Broker. Simple process

I read more good than bad but service supplied varies around their franchised hosts. Eg Peterborough rep will physically take the MH to his depot and deals with viewers there for example.
