Hi all.
This may have been covered before, but I can't find it, so.
I plan on taking my Suzuki VStrom on a trailer when we go to Europe.
Once there we plan to use the motorhome as a base and tour in the bike.
The problem is, we have heard that French Customs are charging VAT on bikes stating that they believe you plan to sell the vehicle abroad.
I have also read that companies who took customer motorcycles abroad ready for their touring holidays, have had to stop because of this issue.
Has anyone any recent information on this? We don't want to get caught out on the boarder.
We even considered going separately on the ferry with the trailer dismantled!
A bit of a pain, but a way around a potential issue.
Thanks for the help.

You shouldn’t have any problem, all clarified some time ago.

I think Jaws has previously posted up (BMF?) links covering the issue.

As stated above.... Make sure you have your v5 etc with you and at the moment all will be fine
What the future holds may be another matter and we might find we will have to pay a carnet on both the motorhome and anything we are taking ( vehicle wise )
But if that does happen you will get that payment back in full when you leave the EU

Personally I cannot see that happening but who knows what goes through what passes for a brain of Eurocrats

Interesting. Thanks.

Had our scooter on the back and two ebikes in the garage. I carried all the relevant documents with me but never had any problems

6 of my club members trailered their bikes by ferry to a rally in France last month and didn't have any issues - not asked for any documentation either.
The bike must be in your name on the V5.

Nice one. Thanks for that.

We have been touring Europe for the past 13 months, France, Spain and now Croatia, returning to the UK twice in that period.

We have the scooter on a trailer behind the van and have never been asked for documents of the scooter, van or trailer. Pic attached.

You will be fine I am sure 😀. Safe travels and have fun

Hi does anyone have any updates on this please? Do we still just need V5 for bike and Moho?

There’s a form you can use, I know people who have taken the form but never been asked for it.
Document d’ accompagnement. Admission temporaire Cerfa No 15678*01
Hope that helps
