Hi everyone,
I have been led to believe that having a Motorhome over 3500kg that it needs an MOT every year even from new is this true. Plus towing a car with an (A frame) needs to be checked every year also.
I am very confused about it all, and have never heard of it before, if anyone can throw some light on this matter it would be much appreciated. I do have a class C1+E.

Thought that only applied to commercial vehicles over 3500kg or possibly 7500kg.

As far as Mot is concerned it’s the same as under 3500kg first MOT at three years old then every year thereafter and that’s it.
We have been towing a car on trailer with our 4500 kg motorhome for nearly ten years now and there is not any testing on trailer and as far as I am aware or an A frame.
I do a thorough inspection of my trailer every time I’m going to use it which keeps all the little niggles sorted out and trailer running well.😊

We have had a 4500kg MH from new . It’s first Mot was on its 3rd year anniversary. It’s a standard Mot as MH of this size are exempt from plating every year if you are running it as. PLG .

We also tow a car on an A Frame and have been doing so for the past 5 yrs . To my knowledge there is no current mandatory check or test for the A Frame , that said I had mine serviced as good practice at 3 years old . I always inspect the A frame visually each time I use it and ensure all lights and the braking system is working .

I hope this helps , happy travels 👍

Hi we are new to this, as before we was driving a 3500kg. Our new one has come back as a 4400kg PHGV. So what is a PLG if you don't mind me asking.
