Just picked the Motorhome up, new handbrake cable, new rear brake shoes, one bulb plus an engine service.
£561 quid then whilst getting over the shock I’ve gone for fuel and mistakenly stuck in £92 of Shell V power diesel.

Pillock Paul.

£650 need some overtime in.

Oh dear, at least you should get a bit of benefit from the diesel so long as you don't 'enjoy' the extra power its suppose to give you! :giggle:

Our Carthago had it's first MOT on Tuesday, passed with no advisories. We took it to Endyke Tyre Mart about a mile from us as they've just started to do MOTs on motorhomes, the technician was a bit confused as he thought it needed a class 7 but hubby told him that I'd informed him it was a class 4 which the manager then confirmed - cost nearly £60 though which was 'painful'!

Just think how lucky you were and did't pick up the petrol pump.

At least she'll be running "as sweet as a nut" Paul. (y)

Be honest, when was the last time you spent some dosh on the old girl, (and no, not Caroline, before some smart ar$e replies)? ;)

Cheers,

Jock. :)

Dear me, the cheapo supermarket stuff simply will not do. Only suitable for downmarket makes!

Surely premium diesel adds value to your Concorde ... :cooler:

I know the feeling when it comes to MOT time garage bills. Earlier this summer managemets Polo was due service and MOT. Our trusty garage said you will have to pay this bill in installments. It was three times what we got for it when we traded the car in.
It was painful on the pocket by the time we paid the bill and bought another car. Hopefully the MOT and service for the motorhome in January won’t be as painful.

That was the air con service last year Jock but not much prior to that apart from yearly engine service and brake pads.
Nothing at all on the habitation side of things but I imagine the gel batteries might need changing soon in their 18th year.

But you’re right it runs as sweet as a nut, power is amazing, same chassis, running gear/ engine as the huge Concorde A classes.

& there we are paying the equivalent of £1,27 for diesel here. So why is it so dear in the UK?
That because of logistics, extra refining financial costs, higher salaries and staff pensions, increased maintenance on fuel tankers, increased demand or do I talk absolute crap and the main important reason is the acronym ROB.

Groan look at this gus-lopez

Hate to worry everyone, but brim up your MH to the top before November>
OPEC+ will be reducing its oil output by 2 million barrels a day, to stop prices falling as they did during Covid Shutdowns. Meanwhile The RAC are saying that our fuel should be cheaper, we are getting ripped off for sure.

Those 3 years have gone quick. Aren't you changing it yet?

Filled up the car as soon as I heard

Full price MOT eh!
I refuse to pay more than the usual price where I go....£35.
If they can do it for £35 everywhere can.
Not much choice, cheapest was only £5 less and would have meant going a good few miles with me following hubby in the car so he can drop it off and we then would come back home, then do the reverse to pick up, by the time we'd pratted the time and fuel used wasn't worth it. Unfortunately we don't have a lot of garages that can do MOTs for a motorhome never mind ones over 3500kg.

Yup they have gone quick, although we didn't use it for 14 months (Feb 2020-April 2021) due to covid, a poorly dog and looking after my Mum.

It's actually it's registration birthday today (reg 7/10/2019) ... might have to go give it a bit of titivating later! :giggle:

I'm a great believer in not taking any vehicle to an MOT station who also do work or servicing on a vehicle, the temptation to find jobs must be too tempting.
So, our MOT STATION ONLY DOES MOTs, they are firm but fair & they do not recommend garages for repairs, never.

See where you’re coming from but in the context of things it’s not too bad thinking about it. I knew it needed the handbrake cable but not the brake shoes.

It’s a Motorhome in its 18th year of age and hasn’t had hardly anything in our 4.5 years of ownership, plus it’s had an engine service.

They are a good garage and when you’re working full time who has the time to take it just for an MOT then another garage to do any work. Certainly not us.

£60 for an MOT? Yikes! My garage, North Birmingham Motors in Aldridge, part of Walsall, only charge the same as a car. We do have to be careful there as the clearance into the building is about an inch! Driving in and out has to be taken taken dead slow as there is a slight uplift in the floor just inside.

Nice theory.
I used to think that was a good idea until the council MOT station (only MOTs, no repairs on private vehicles) failed the car on brakes and also had advisories.
I knew they were wrong to fail it and took it to the garage I used for work to be done. Without ANY work being carried out, they passed it, with the advisory being no longer an advisory, and the Fail becoming an advisory.
Also, the original advisory I thought could be genuine (I just knew the fail bit was 100% wrong) and asked them to look at and fix. They told me there was nothing needed to be fixed and so turned down paid work that wasn't necessary.

I agree in principle but these garages domtnd to charge more for the MOT. I take mine to a local garage I've used for 20 plus years. He is so busy with work he really doesn't need to create jobs for himself.
