Moselle to Mosel end to end September 2019

Is the Black Forest not all it's made out to be, then?
I thought the Black Forest was beautiful - its very different from the Mosel (which we also love) so I think they'd be a good combination if you want to see two areas with different characters.

The original Schwarzwälder Kirschtorte is from the Cafe Schäfer in Triberg in the Black Forest and hubby says its definitely one of the best he's ever had (if not the absolute best). I had another local cake the Schweitzer Käse-Sahne-Torte which was also fabulous. We weren't that impressed with the town of Triberg itself though....very very touristy so we didn't say overnight.

It's getting real now :), we set off one week tomorrow and have just ordered our euros

Free delivery from PO on Monday, rate better than I expected 1.0975 (y)

Health insurance renewed, for only £3 more than last year despite extra meds since then, £77 for the year for us both (y)

Just need to remember LPG to refill, but even that doesn't matter, just easier done over here

P & O have Tanqueray Rangpur on offer @ £20 / litre, life is looking good (y):)

Are you still planning on France first before crossing in to Germany?
I'm on the Newcastle Amsterdam on Tuesday, then probably heading for Trier area to start along the Mosel.

not fixed but probably France first, we like France and speak the lingo, but Bev did German at school

I would guess we will be crossing into Germany around Friday 20th, are you working your way back into France? if so we must cross at some point, look forward to a drink and catch up (y)

Only a brief visit for me, so I'm on the boat back on 21st.
I'll keep in touch and see where you are, if our paths cross I'm always happy to help reduce your gin stocks.

We'll be trundling our way home slowly along the Moselle from 22nd September - will look out for the yellow smileys. Reil is definitely on the list- like it there. (y)

We should hit Trier next weekend 14/15th sept. Then a slow trek up the river. Will keep a look out for funsters on route (y)
What happened to Loire/Spain?

What happened to Loire/Spain?

The plan can always change. Spain may be a trip for November. My dad was in WW2 at Arnhem, a bridge to far, and there is a 75 year commemoration this month. So would like to visit and it fits in with doing the Moselle.

Did you mean down the river as up will take you through Luxemburg and France?
We went that way last year.

So following in Lenny’s wheel tracks we are at Floreffe,

That Flair getting in on the picture again,

We had our own personal guided tour of the Abbye church, the choir stalls were carved by one man, 74 stalls took 16 years if I understood correctly,

And then I was forced to have a abbye beer in the gardens.

Like most good plans we have rewritten ours, now looking at going south from Koblenz

We have found a site right on the convergence of the Mosel and Rhine looks well placed if not a little pricey, but Bev wants to do more sites, or at least Aires with camping behaviour this trip ?

I reckon your Floreffe suggestion Martin must be pretty much half way from Zeebrugge to Koblenz? Like the idea of the Abbeye, is that the actual location fir the beer of the same name or just an excuse to drink some? ? is that a free Aire? Need to save the pennies for the sites

Current thinking now Sunday night at Floreffe, Koblenz for a night or three, then up river to Riel for a few nights

Will be looking out for funsters ? seen a few reviews of Aires and sites on our route by funsters ?

And just look at the weather forecast ☀ for first week at least

Found it Martin, reviews say a bit noisy? Hopefully Sunday night might help that ??

Backed up against the road so yes could be noisy, Thieu was quiet and cheap and interesting ? bit closer to Zeebrugge though.

Martin

Jen says make sure you don’t do the RN67 Eupen into Germany ?

Floreffe as in the beer and of course you will buy some like we did, we did the abbey tour but were the only ones on it, just the church really which needs a lot of money spending on it.

Is it one of these?

also found this option at Aachen

not really been to Germany, passed through on way to Norway and been to Nurburgring for F1 in the car, but now spotting place names that I always thought were in eastern Germany or even Poland

Koblenz I thought was in Poland, Polch in eastern Germany and as I mentioned earlier in the thread I didn't know Schengen was a real place

Another day where I will go to bed slightly wiser (y) :)

Agree with you entirely. The Mosel is OK for a stop over, as far as we're concerned. Currently at the lovely Bodensee.

Sorry, having real probs posting photos. Will try again tomorrow.
