Morocco 2017

Well here it is - the definitive forum thread for those wishing/intending to travel to Morocco in the 2016/2017 season.

In order to keep it down to a manageable (i.e. readable without having to wade through dozens of pointless posts) source of information, let's try to keep it to:-

Intended travel information, perhaps including "where are you today?" Photos of course are always welcome (but see below)
Information about generally useful things, such as changed ferry/customs procedures, road closures.
Places of interest, camping and parking locations also any intended "meets".
Requests for help or assistance - hopefully not too many of those.
Specific questions that have not been covered in the Resources article **

In particular I know there are a lot of Funsters who would like to go to Morocco but would prefer to travel with others, so anybody in this position and also anybody happy to have someone tag along could post their intentions. Remember you have the option of PM's if you don't want to use "open forum".

** I've just uploaded an amended version (7) of my "Taking a Motorhome to Morocco" resource. If you've already downloaded V6, don't bother with the new one but for those who haven't yet it's a good starting point. Go to "Resources" on the dark blue bar at the top of the page and select Miscellaneous Items.

There's also tons of info and pictures on the earlier threads, Morocco 2013, Morocco 2014, Morocco 2015, not forgetting Morocco 2016! If you've got a couple of weeks to spare!

And (just for @PhilandMena) if you're going to post photos on the thread try and reduce their (file) size first. Although internet in Morocco is pretty good, large picture files take longer to load and of course use up data allowances quite quickly too. If you don't know how, just ask or search on the main forum pages - it's been covered before.

Whatever you decide, be it old hand or newbie, Brenda and I look forward to seeing you somewhere in Morocco in 2017

:sun:

Not going this time round Terry, so no photo's taking up peeps memory capacity. Hope you all have a wonderful time, we will follow the thread with interest and perhaps meet up with some of you when you return as we expect to be in the Gib area end of March. Safe Travels

Right, I'll get the ball rolling. Having got the okay from the doc and the van's misfiring problem sorted out (and a new window ordered, but that's another story!) we're about to make our cross-channel bookings and start planning the winter trip.

We intend booking Eurotunnel for Jan 2nd in the afternoon, overnight somewhere then wander down through France and Spain, taking our time but it will probably be dependent on the weather. Stay on the southern Spanish coast until around 24th January. We'll then transfer to Algeciras, go see Carlos for tickets then cross to Tangiers-Med the next day. Nothing set in stone of course.

If any Funster would like help or to join us for the crossing they would be very welcome - just post on here. If there's enough interest I might consider forming a small travelling group like last year (fully paid up members only though, eh Colin?)

Terry

We're crossing over to Spain on 10th January along with 'Cakey', then making our way to possibly sanlucca with a view to crossing to Morocco around 15th

We're planning to go to Morocco for a month in 2017 too, but not until September. Is anyone else likely to be there then?
Will be watching this thread with interest.

Might think about that @Robert Clark as will be in France beginning of September.. Roy

That could well fit in with our plans @TerryL . Nothing definite yet but we are looking to cross round about then and we haven't been before so it would be good to piggy back on someone else's experience if its offered

Done the service , new front disc's and pads Changed the fuel filter ( NEVER NEVER NEVER EVER AGAIN) so we are all set. most likely join up with you in southern Spain Terry as we start later than you but Jan 24 is good

Thanks for your hand out at Lincoln and thanks again for your latest posts. Your time line looks good for our fist time in Morocco keep us informed more than likely take up your offer of help.

Hoping to go again this coming year but as always " man plans God laughs " Last year (this year actually) we were all ready insurance paid etc but couldn't go 'cause family illness.
But we are flying out for a week tomorrow (Sat) going as tourists.

Done last 3 years and had a great time. Having a break from North Africa this year and doing winter in South Africa instead. (but not in the van )

Spending in the south what we have saved in the north!

Back to maroc 2018.

Ditto. After 4 consecutive years doing Maroc we are having a year off too. As expected our house extension/remodelling is running late so we wont be able to get away straight after New Year. We will leave in April amd plan to go down to Croatia and back up through Eastern Europe and along the Baltic.
Thats if our plans work out of course.

We were thinking of going to morocco but our insurance does`nt do a green card .They did say that they could cover us if we cancelled our existing policy & went with another broker that they deal with (axa)..but it would mean losing most of our premium which we only took out 3 months ago, along with paying for a new policy we would be looking at paying the best part of £500.So my question is does anyone have any info on buying cover at the border? is it worth the paper it`s written on & roughly how much ?...We are away for the winter & the thought of marocco really appeals but we are on a budget.Any feedback much appreciated.Chris.

You can buy third-party insurance at the border as you enter Morocco (*) - one of our group had to last time. Think it was quite expensive (around €135 if I remember correctly) but they were staying for 3 months or longer and it obviously varies for how long. Haven't heard of anybody who has actually had to use it so cannot comment on it's "value" but it should keep you legal.

* At Tangier-Med it's in a building just past all the Bureaux de Change after the Customs/Immigration checks.

Thanks, think we will go for it. hope to cross over some time mid Jan.

@kip as a matter of reference for others, who is your insurer if you don't mind saying?

Hope to see you on the road somewhere. Don't forget to ask Carlos for Funsters ferry discount.

Not a problem , my insurance is Allianze . Decent enough policy except for green card. Thanks for the tip & hope to see you & other funsters on the way. Just to mention Jean & I met your good lady wife at Peterborough last year & she sold us on the idea of Morocco.(y)

Anyone traveling to Morocco on about 15th to 17th of Jan.We would love to tag along for a bit to learn the ropes as never been before and then probably strikeout on our own. To tell you a bit about ourselves we have been motorhoming since 2010 and much prefer wild/freecamping and aires to campsites visiting most European countries getting as far as Croatia normally carry a scooter in the garage, but wont be this trip. Having spent the last three winters in and around Spain and having talked to returning funsters at a wild camp we where sold on the idea.We are in our sixties, travel in a lhd Carado with our springer spaniel. Can anyone help. Ted & Trish

We cross Portsmouth to Santander on 10th then 3-4 days down to the ferry and hoping to cross at a similar time to yourselves

We plan to cross sometime after 20th (Green Card date). Peeps are now starting to firm up their plans so look for someone who's aiming to cross about the time you want to and send them a PM (now known as a "Conversation"). We won't finally decide until much closer the time and are intending to spend a couple of weeks in southern Spain before we cross. We're quite happy to have anyone tag along.

@fivestar have you got the rabies jab and certificate sorted out for the pooch? Takes about a month to organise.
Oops, see you've been to Croatia so you will have done this already. I'll leave it posted for anyone else's info.
