Hi all,

I am looking to buy a used motorhome and have noticed that some have
Euro 5 engines and some have Euro 6 engines. What is the difference / significance??

Also, some motorhomes are described as having 2 floors. Again what does this mean ??

Apologies for all the questions but all this is new to me and there is a lot to get your head around!

:thanks4:

Euro 6 is how clean the engine runs and can affect what parts of a city you can enter.

Double floors is just that, a floor you walk on and one underneath to support the likes of water tank, grey water tank etc.

We have a 2016 Euro 5 van, and don't have any issues concerning where we can access.

Euro 6 should be cleaner, with even more emission controls fitted, which might affect reliability and or performance? Most Euro 6s - but not the X290 chassis - require the use of adblue. Having said that, I'd still buy one of I wanted to replace the van.

Euro 5 is OK everywhere at the moment, as far as I know, but over time might be more restricted than the newer Euro 6 standard.

Regarding vans with double floors, they are reputed to provide enhanced insulation as well as possibly some additional storage.

ok I'll bite......whats a X290 chassis when its at home ??

The new Fiat Ducato platform - The fourth generation Ducato/Jumper/Relay/Boxer (platform designation X290) was introduced in the summer of 2014. Although based on the third generation model, it features a heavily revised front end, with more car like headlights styling. Euro 6 engines were introduced for the 2017 model year in late 2016, and does not require Adblue (Fiat version only) unlike most of its competitors.

Double floor will be warmer as it’s like having underfloor heating as all the heater ducts are routed between the floors and it will very likely be winterised.(y)(y)(y)

I'll answer my own question in case anyone reads this is the future.

So far, the Italian company is the only manufacturer not to use SCR (selective catalytic reduction), and will therefore not require the addition of AdBlue solution.

Instead, Fiat is using an enhanced version of EGR, called Low Pressure Exhaust Gas Recirculation (LPEGR), which draws exhaust gases downstream of the turbocharger and returns them upstream of the compressor to reduce emissions.
