Had a quick search but could only find one thread from 9 years ago.

Anyone been? Access for motorhomes looks a little tricky.

Suggestions to stay overnight? Happy with aires or unofficial park ups / car parks. Also fine with a decent hike to see the sights.

I realise it will be a little chilly in late November, but figure that at least the tourist hordes will have gone by then!

It's worth driving up first there's various roadside parking, or there is a free car park down the bottom with a dump and water you could sleep there but it's on the C -55 so it might not be quite. 😁 Bob.

The bus parking area by the station where we stopped is very quiet.

Apparently, at the station, the guard there has CCTV and likes you to position where he can look out for you.
When we stopped last October the only sign of life was a couple of other Motorhomes didn't know there was any security guard, it did feel very safe but did notice the cameras and its well lit all night.

Thanks for the replies.

We're also a bit confused about getting around once there - talk of funiculars, cable cars, etc. Information appears surprisingly sparse as most tourists seem to go on day trip excursions from Barcelona.

Lenny HB - the pictures on your linked thread are great by the way - and displaying the latitude and longitude on the photos is very useful in confirming the location of the park ups. Thanks.

We've followed Lenny HB 's tyre tracks and parked in the coach park at the Rack Railway. Well lit and with CCTV. We're the only motorhome here tonight and the last of the coaches left an hour or two ago. Spoke with one of the station staff who said we are more than welcome to stay the night.

Planning on getting the first train up to the monastery in the morning, then using the funicular to get to the Chapel of Saint Joan, and then a 3 hour round hike to the summit. From down below it is a very spectacular location.

What an amazing place. A fantastic day - one of the highlights of our 3 months away.

Caught the first rack railway train up to the monastery as planned. Had the whole place to ourselves. Visited the basilica to see the Black Madonna. Then caught the first funicular up to the Chapel of Saint Joan and then hiked (about 3 hours round trip including picnic) to the summit at Sant Jeroni - just over 4000ft altitude. Complete 360 degree panaroma. Could see Barcelona and the Mediterranean in one direction and the snow covered Pyrenees in the other.

I'd recommend Montserrat to anyone. It's only about half an hour inland from the AP7 motorway if you're heading down to the Costas, or it's a day trip by public transport from Barcelona.
