To many to mention
I have a contract with Vodafone that I am cancelling, I have a PAC code from them as I wish to keep the number. I have done this before but usually gone from a contract with one supplier to another contract.
What I now want to do is just buy a Pay as you Go sim which I know will have a random number, can I then contact the sim supplier and will they change the sim number by using the PAC. I think this is possible but as I have never done it this way just want a bit of reassurance as I don’t want to loose the number I have had for years.

it is possible we have just done that from vodafone to VOXI (which is a vodafone sister company but in competition ) for grandchild.

not all companies will do it so you need to check directly with your chosen network. we did it within the VOXI app.

Yes you just give your new provider the PAC, number but I think you only have 30 days of receipt of the PAC number in which to do it. No problem at all with the three we have done with Smarty and guaranteed to be done before close of business the next day. It’s all Ofcom dictated & I thought all companies had to do it like giving you the PAC within 60 seconds

not all providers will accept a PAC on PAYG sims

I have done it for both of us, not just PAYG only as they are month to month Sims but contract free

I've done it when going from ID mobile to a month to month deal with Lebara and Martin did the same going to Giff Gaff.

GiffGaff might be a good option. Login your new simm and they ask for PUC code if you have one ready.

Changed 4 of ours from contract to Voxi 3/4yrs ago.

You need to be aware that if you are going from a sim provider to another sim provider who uses the original sim's network (eg Vodafone to Talkmobile) you will need to PAC the number to another non-Vodafone network first then on to the new sim using Vodafone's network.

This can be problematic as many PAYG sim providers now require you to top up to 'activate' their sims fully - my hubby had this issue when he wanted to change his old Vodafone contract sim to a PAYG Lebara one which uses Vodafone's network, I got round it for him as I had a spare O2 classic PAYG sim which being the old type doesn't require a top up - you can buy them on Ebay.

However ... you could just buy an O2 classic PAYG sim and stick with that as your PAYG sim as it's only 1p per mb of data, 2p per text and 3p per min for calls and the credit doesn't expire.

Another alternative PAYG sim card is from RWG based in Wales, you can buy it for £5 which is credit added to the sim so you don't lose it and then get free calls/texts/data each month without having to use the credit - just search the forum for RWG under my name.

I didnt have to that when I changed from Sky to Tesco (both O2) and have since moved to O2 themselves for the better roaming allowance. I got the PAC code first and was able to input it as part of the switching process.

Probably going to Popit as soon as my contract runs out

1p a Mb sounds fine until you work out its £10 a Gb

I agree but that's the case with most PAYG sims which is what the op wants. He hasn't said why he wants that rather than a contract.

Didn’t have to do that when son changed from 3 to Lebara.

Not quite the same but I went from GiffGaff with a PAC code to Smarty and they were very quick to give me my number.

In that case Nick didn’t last year either! They both changed over. One from 3 and one from Vodafone.
In which case it looks like Lebara may deal with some sim types differently to others or they've altered what they do.
