Missed the Security Search

About 45 years ago I was coming back from Belgium where I had been for 4 months and the car was fully loaded. The customs decided to search the car, I was made to empty the car and then the boot, halfway through the boot they said that's OK don't take out any more. I was more angry about that than being searched I even asked if they thought I was too stupid to hide contraband at the bottom. I got a scowl and told to go.

I reckon he means he wasn't searched before boarding in Portsmouth.
OK so we were boarding ferry at Portsmouth where people were being searched. We were lucky and went straight onto the ferry without being searched. Caen is a long way behind us now as we enter Spain tomorrow.

Many years ago we were returning to Dover in a car, possibly with a trailer. Our son was still at potty stage. Lots of queues. Moving very slowly or not at all. We were near the front of a queue but had been waiting for ages. Son wanted a wee! Got him and potty out between the rows of cars. He did his wee, back in the car and we were immediately waved on - coincidence or not? Family legend is that it was son's performance that caused queue to move!

Been stopped and searched a number of times over the years. Other times stopped for a drug swab test. Appears to be random and normal.

A while ago I had a split screen vw, just before they were superseded by the bay window version. Guaranteed to be stopped at every border. And there were a lot more then

1967 when the German's stopped production of the 'Splitter' was a while ago but yes, I can remember when one had to stop at all the Custom posts to get one's passport stamped.
I was trucking in Europe and had to apply to have 10 additional pages as there was no space left, why they just didn't give me a new one, I can't remember?
Could it have been the cost I wonder??
