Chausson 628eb Ford 170
Exp
September 2019
On our return to France at Dover we suffered a broken mirror, smashed by a delivery lorry.

Being a Ford Transit base, I assumed that it would be a Ford mirror but I am now told that it is not.

It is a LHD Chausson 628eb 2018 model on the Transit 170bhp chassis and has a mirror similar to a FIAT Ducato but a slightly different shape. Certainly looking at pictures of Transit's they have one mounting and ours has two like a FIAT.

Is it a Ford mirror or is it a special fitted by Chausson?

I would prefer to fit a pattern part if possible as I think that with it being electric it is fairly expensive.

Any help or advice much appreciated. Thank you.

Sorry I can't be of much help answering your question but get yourself a set of Mirror guards. Well worth the money.

A photo may help get some answers on your problem.
I am embarrassed to say this but both my wife (who is far more intelligent than I), spent over an hour trying to gat a picture attached. Any advice on how to do it please?

Thank you so much

Here are two pictures.

I believe the arms aren't ford but the mirror case itself is a Ford transit part.

Can you not edit the title to include transit in the description. It may get the transit based owners taking a look

More embarrassment. How do I edit the title please?

try taking a photo from the front in the daylight as that really looks like a fiat mirror in the dark photo

Be careful. We smashed our passenger side Transit mirror, and we bought a nice new one here on the island for only €40.

But it was for a LHD, and couldn't see naff all out of it :( We had to tape a spare lens onto the new lens padded out with foam

ok just been searching on the net and i can see there are differences to the fiat mirror

Thank you but it is definitely different to a FIAT mirror. It is slightly squarer and less rounded/bulbous.

I have been looking on the Ford site for pictures and it seems to be different as I can only see single mount mirrors and like the FIAT it has two arms.

Sorry, pressed the wrong button (again!).
Thank you very much indeed. It looks the same although I will have to check that it has the same electrical fitting.
I very much appreciate your help.

Go to Google search page.

Type in " Transit Van Mirrors" without quote marks.

When results come up, under the search title but above the results you will see a horizontal list something like ..................... all, shopping, images, video etc.

Any image on Google of a transit mirror will be listed together with the source article.

Have a look through to see if you can see one like yours.

Good Luck.

Think it might be similar to this one?
This tutorial is for an upgrade but, it should be an easy repair.

Robert.

Fit anything you can, you only see one side at a time some glass merchant will cut to a template and you can stick it on a background to fit.

Mk 8 long arm mirror complete.

Half way down the page... £94

https://www.transitcenter.uk/tags.php/tag/ford-transit-mirror-8/page/1

Or you can get a new case + indicator only on ebay for around £39

Stroppy bird beat me... And yes, I think it may be LHD. .. it says adapted for the European version of this van.

Anyway, you need a MK8 mirror, they are twin arm.

It is what this forum does so well - we've been helped out many a time. :)

And hopefully have also been able to help others too. :)

Hope you can get it sorted. (y)

Thank you to all who assisted with information,

I sourced the parts from the Transit centre in Poland. The response to emails by them was not good but after much chasing I did get the info and have ordered the lower mirror and the indicator lens. The total price with a 2 week delivery window is about 35€ which I think is excellent.

I know that Ducato mirrors are prone to breakage. The Ford mirror backing seems quite strong and I was surprised that it did not break and that only the glass was damaged. I have not seen mirror guards for the Transit mirrors. Does anybody do them?

Hope its a UK model for RHD

The two parts are the same RHD and LHD.

Yes that's correct, its only the angle of the main mirror housing that differs between LHD & RHD.
@Yorik was quite right to ask the question as many manufacturers mirrors are wildly different between RHD & RHD. Its all to easy to order parts & get egg on your face due to small changes, how do I know this?

As for the price of "mirror guards" are they really worth it when the lenses & indicator repeaters are so inexpensive?

I've found them worth every penny for the moderating effect that they have on approaching drivers. Never had a mirror hit since I fitted them, but people slow down or move position now whereas before I fitted them they all seemed to barrel along totally regardless. It was having my offside mirror hit twice on one day by numpties who were flying down lanes as if I wasn't there, despite the fact that I had already stopped when I saw them approaching, that prompted me to fit them.

I'm sure it helps if they're white or silver (not black) and have some reflective tape attached. It creates a perception of actual vehicle width that seems to be missing with the standard black mirrors (y)
