Any interest in water sports? Puddleduck will organise a kayaking day complete with instructor if there is enough interest. The location of Millport makes it an ideal location for beginners to get their feet wet.

@irnbru , Sandra I have no objection to getting my feet wet, it's the rest of me I worry about!! Never been to Millport and it does look interesting just not sure I can book anything else into my calendar yet!!

We love Millport. Where are you planning to site the meet? Mags
The Garrison grounds are being revamped. Big plans for the Island getting undertaken.

Sandra, is that the Millport on Great Cumbrae in the Firth of Clyde? If so how much will the Ferry cost?
Yes thats the one. Off top of head I'm sure our ferry fare was about £16.90 return + around £3.70 return per person.
Blue badge holders get a 20 or 25% discount on THE VEHICLE fare. I will give them a ring 2mor.

E-mail sent to the watersport centre asking for minimum numbers and costs for a taster session :)
Brilliant Helen. I'm hoping we can show how motorhomers can contribute to towns. Might just be the push Ayrshire council need.

Motorhome

up to 8m £18.30
up to 10m £24.40

I think it was much more than that one way to Luing a few years back.

Luing, one of the slate islands nearest place of any size is Oban, It's an island off an island! You go across the Bridge over the Altantic to Seil and then take the ferry across the Cuan sound.

@Busman The rally thread isn't open yet so can't take names at the moment but good to see you have expressed an interest in kayaking.Thats what we are looking for at the moment. It really is good fun and pretty sheltered. June should be nice weather..Fingers crossed.

Bit nervously
Once you have sat in for 5 min you will become more at ease. The water is shallow at the bay of the watersport centre so you will get instructions and used to it before moving off to hug the coast.

Yes for me Sandra for coyaking don't think Bill and Amanda will but I love to try did a bit at shell island this year and absolutely enjoyed it xxx don't forget I may not have internet so please when the thread starts put us down for this meet . Xxx Kate

Yes please to kayaking we think. Bit nervously

It is great!

I started in my late 30s or 40s when my kids joined the club at their school - and wish I'd taken it up when I was much younger. The funny thing is that the school where my Dad taught when I was a teen had a kayak club (built their own craft as well) and when I said I'd like a go the man in charge was all for it but my parents refused point blank. They have seen me finish the Durham to Finchale race and my Mum said afterwards that she knew why I did it by the big grin as I crossed the finish line. I was the first and last across the line in my class of boat :)

Just remember that if you do it correctly kayaking is a dry sport - unless you need to demonstrate the various rescue techniques. Martin is always willing to show people about rescue techniques :) - TIP don't offer to share a boat with him.

From the interest shown already I think we can get a group of 10 together for the kayaking. I think they will quote a price for a group of up to so many and we would need to split the cost between the numbers that partake. Martin and I will join in but bring out own kayaks and equipment if the instructor is happy with us using own own boats :)

I was going to suggest a couple of hours taster session and then if anyone wanted to they could hire boats to play for longer either the same day or the day afterwards.

@Puddleduck Our taster session lasted all day but I think they do half days too. Lets see what the prices are first. :-)
