Be careful around Gravelines etc as there are clashes between the Gendarmes and migrants

We were parked up there about 7 weeks ago and hundreds of what looked like migrants were walking from I assumed the bus station towards the beach. No idea where they were going and caused no issues and were being monitored by Police vans. Some of them looked very down trodden and tired. We were saying today perhaps some of them were the ones who tragically died today, pregnant woman and children, so very very sad. It’s a tragic situation and unfortunately I can see no solution.

Interesting article on how they see the migrant issue in the channel in France. I'd never thought of it being easier to work in the UK without documents than in other countries.

Yes basically it is extremely hard in france ,The French will report the French working illegally, so no chance foreigners

Maybe something to do with ID cards, similarly to get healthcare and no doubt housing etc? Just sayin😁

I've always felt we have very little control over stuff like that in the UK. (well, anything really - lack of police etc)

Part of the issue is our objection to control by authorities - one example opposition to ID cards.

'Let them cross' was the phase that stood out to me

Then of course they are not the French problem .

It's a sad mess o ly ones benefitting are criminal gangs

But if the situation was reversed what would we say here! They are much more regulated with id cards etc why aren't we?

A very easy-going builder pal who retired to Normandy got roped in by ex-patriots to do various jobs for them. He was refused a business permit and although he spoke good French he occasionally suffered animosity from the staff and other local tradespeople when at the builders' merchants and other trade counters.

I'd like to think that we would try conserve life and not pack people into boats sending them towards possible death

As for ID cards someone would start screaming breach of human rights

I get that in Spain.

When I am working on our house, I go to the Spanish builders merchants , rather than the British ones.

In my best Spanish , I will ask for “rollo de cobre” along with size .

Often the older trade counter staff will awkwardly switch to velenciano or Catalan.

So now I chose the places that are more helpful.

Shame about grand fort Philippe , we used to use the little aire on the estuary. Almost stopped their on the 8th August this year

Yawn

Rule 1
And what does that mean? The fact people are dying does not concern you?
All over the world people are dying...i don't have time left to worry about them .. Why don't you worry about someone sitting over their stove getting bombed by a cruise in Kiev instead of people just seeking benefits...chump

I’m sorry but your analogy is lost on me. As a caring person it concerns me and worries me when ANYONE regardless of nationality, gender, race etc dies needlessly, but guess that’s because I’m a caring person 🙄 I have just scrolled through a few of your posts over the last few weeks and our moral compasses could not be further apart, therefore best I hit the ignore button for you. However, reading some of the comments and terminology you use I don’t think it shall be long before Jim hits the big ignore button for you. Remember, Karma is a cruel mistress 😉

I suppose there will always be a % of people in any given population who make one feel as you do. Happily that % is far far lower than the rest of the population.
