Hi
We are planning our first long trip (2 months) to Spain in January Having spent 3 weeks in France our mobile bills were eye watering
We are therefore thinking of MiFi for our trip
Neither of us have any knowledge or experience of this
Does anyone have any advice on what to buy and how to use?
Any other advice for green 1st timers abroad for a lengthy time very welcome
Thank you

Loads of threads on here, current favorite is Vodafone. You can tether your phone abroad and 4G service.

We have a MiFi device and wi-fi router but only used my phone on our last trip of 3 month. No issues at all. We don't stream TV though, only radio.

Essentially you use your phone as a hotspot that other devices can use to access t'internet. Check your T&Cs as not every providet allows it, some only allow in UK etc.

Also check your phone as older phones sometimes don't have the capability.

May be best to first explain what you want to use it for, phone calls, watching Tv via internet etc..

A MIFI is really more useful for Data / Internet use BUT you still have to pay for a package and the data you use.
If you streaming Tv shows and films that can soon add up..

Most phone companies have a "use like at home" policy. So unless you have a poor contract or pay as you go them really calls should cost no more than using in UK..

Many contracts allow you the "teather" that is like using your phone similar to a mifi box...

EE are good, you can steal DATA from one phone to the other. I have my broadband with them and a MiFi device, I can steal Data from both phones to use on my pc.

Your bill should not have been "eye watering" unless this was a few years ago and before roaming charges were abolished. :) However, you might have gone over your data limit but even so the total charge should have been capped. I can't remember what it is but it shouldn't have been over £50 or something like that. They should also have sent you text messages telling you of the extra charges.

Edit: I've just checked and the data cap is currently €6 per Gb plus VAT. There doesn't seem to be a maximum charge you can incur which is what I thought - although providers will have different policies. Vodafone do cut you off at a certain point outside the UK though this isn't automatic in the UK unless you ask them.
