Now that I have turned 70 I am thinking of giving up the motorcycle. However, giving up two wheels is NOT happening, hence the reason for the thread. I am thinking of maybe a Burgman 400, fast enough for the motorway two up, comfortable for probably an hour at a time, good weather protection for the odd times we do get caught out in the rain, and most importantly low seat height.
Opinions please, thanks in advance.

They are great scooters. We have a Yamaha Xmax 300 and that is also quite capable of what you want.

I've had twelve autos over the years including tmax's, Gilera Nexus's and others. Don't forget the Forza 350 and the Beverly (350/400). Which are nice medium sized scooters. Best to test ride a few.

I had a 650 Burgman stonking scooter loads of torque and as comfortable as an armchair, never gave a bit of bother
Are they not affected by cross winds? 🤔

Had "Ingrid" a Burgman 400 some years ago and loved it. Brisk, loads of storage under seat and was great to ride. Wanted one for the van but too long and too heavy, not that you notice the weight until you push it! Now got a SH350 for tender duties in the Moho and it is good but not as good as Ingrid was.

Changed from a Triumph Trophy 1250 to a Forza 350. Love the scoot. Great weather protection with electric screen. All day comfort 85 mph and 85 mpg.
75 and still loving my 900 Triumph Thunderbird.

I got to 60 and had to give up big bikes due to being vertically challenged. I bought a Can Am Spyder RT which I love, however I'm missing a bike. I'm now considering a Kymco CV3 mega scooter that leans, plenty of power and lots of kit. They are expensive at around 12k but a lot cheaper than a Can Am

I've been a biker on an off since my 16th birthday back in 1968....
What I have now is very popular here in Spain and is very reliable.
My Kymco 300 is very quick off the mark and holds its own on our local motorways...
One thing I find difficult is the actual width of the scooter..a 300cc motorbike with traditional styling would be much easier to push around...the advantage of a scooter is the storage and weather protection....never got used to a smaller wheels...but the rest is fine... good engine quality for a twist and go..

The Honda ADV350 gets brilliant reviews, there are some good tests and comparisons with other similar scooters on YouTube. Nice looking as well.

I’ve had many bikes & scoots, burgman 400 was lovely to drive , a bit heavy , Honda SH 300 , light enough/ quick enough/ big wheels & would be my choice for general use & in MoHo ,due to weight restrictions I have a SH125 , great for MoHo / bit slow for general use but I get by , will cruse at 55mph 2 up , genuine 100mpg

Yeah. Since I got the van, I wouldn't use a big tourer.
Got the 1250RT. Big bike but then I go on trips and rides out with my son. He has a z1000sx.

Toying with getting a scooter for the van though. Although it would have to be on a trailer as no room in the van and not enough payload to put on the back.

I have a 1250RT after I sold my K1600 GTL. We have a scooter and use a Motolug trailer for the same reasons you mention.

I will be selling my MP3 and trailer come the spring if anyone is interested. Used solely with the m/h and although it is a 2015 it has done less than 1000 miles due to covid and temporary loss of licence. It's like new complete with matching topbox. Trailer is Armitage side loading and uses a winch.

How do you find the ferry / tunnel prices for the trailer. It’s about 3.5 m length ?

IIRC the additional cost for Spain ferry was about £100 return. Trailer is 2.70 mtr so under the 3.00 Mtr booking length.
Beauty of it is that it can be dismantled for storage in the garage at home or away.

I had the Yamaha T max 560, lighter than the burgervan and much more responsive and handled like a sports bike

Had a burgman 400 for about 3 years , found it quick comfortable and reliable, little bit thirsty fast cruising 2 up . but still reasonable range , very stable ride . about 225kg iirc
good weather protection , heated grips a good addition .
