If this subject has already been discussed please point me in the tight direction!

Our new to us 9048 Rapido has a microwave. We haven't had one at home or in a MHfor at least 20 years. Hubby wants to remove it but I thought I'd ask any of you who have one, what's your opinion please before it comes out!

Well we use ours as we do at home when on hook-up, eg soup, scrambled eggs, etc. You have to be on hook-up though so depends on if you be regularly otherwise could be a bit of a waste of space \ payload.

We go abroad a lot and use aires etc. I have to be honest and wonder if we will get full use out of it.

We didn't have one in the mh for a couple of years. we decided to get one mainly for heating soup etc and for veg so that we don't steam up the van.

Thanks. Didn't think about the steaming up. I'm going to make s list of all the positives!!!

as you've already got it in the van I'd keep it as long as you don't desperately need the space. Goodfor porridge too. Also jacket pots and a quick not so smelly way to cook fish if you can't do it outside in your outside kitchen (if you've got one.)

No outside kitchen. Dave's the cook and he goes outside with the two ring gas for fish if poss. Another positive as we eat a lot of fish.Thank you

We tend to use the one in our Kingham for storage rather than cooking and then its only on hook-up probably for simple items such as frozen peas or soup. If it went we certainly wouldnt miss it tbh.

We didn't have an outside kitchen until this year. We got a Cadac (not the bBQ its the two ring burner with griddle attachments) and a table to put it on. Magic.

Can't see the point of them there is nothing they can cook you can't do with gas. For smelly & fatty things we use a £10 single gas ring outside.

We had one in our previous Motorhome and only really used it for porridge, rice and heating up milky coffees, all of which can be done without one, just differently.
We certainly don't miss one for anything now and would rather have the space for storage.
They're also quite heavy.

Quicker and not so steamy are the main advantages.

We use it for storage when we're travelling and just put the stuff out of it on the drivers seat (ours don't turn round) when we want to use it.

Their was one in our Ducato PVC when we bought it and as space was at a premium and I wanted to utilise the space, so turfed it out.
The C class we now have came with a factory fitted microwave and again I planned to remove it but due to the way it had been fitted we decided that the space and opening left when it was removed would look tatty so we opted to keep it, use it as and when and store stuff in it when not in use.

Don’t have one in the motorhome, rarely use the one at home.
Heavy and use a lot of leccie.
Happy to use the gas,and if we get steamy that’s a bonus, nudge nudge.

use it quite a bit , eg porridge scrambled eggs, hot potatoes :) standby frozen meals .
But as most say if you don't intend to be on ehu much , ( saves the lpg) or if the space and weight is more use (not a factor we consider) , then its a convenience thing rather than a desperate need .

If you do remove store somewhere safe for next owner ,when you come to sell :)

Handy for storing kitchen rolls and bin bags. Haven't used it for cooking yet.

Going off topic! Using Aires,Camper Stops etc often “No Barbeques Allowed” presumably no Flames/Fire because of the proximity of other MH’s, what’s your take on this? It’s not a Barbeque it’s a Gas Ring!

We also use mainly aires without hook up. We used our microwave as a bread bin. Our current van does not have one.

They are heavy, so you're better off without it. We had them in previous vans and wondered how we'd manage without in the new one, but have not experienced any problems. There is life without a microwave, and it's not at all bad!

Use ours a lot. On sites with hook up I use it to cook/steam all our veg. Also for porridge etc. I cook outside in awning where possible but wouldn't be without my microwave. The gas oven on the other hand..... waste of space. Used once when we first got the van, now used as storage & for transporting Remoska which I use instead.

We have a French MH built for French market, no oven or grill just a 3 burner gas hob and 12v microwave which we use a lot. For outdoor use we have a halogen cooker which is used at home to hone cooking skills when away.

Our caravan didn't have an oven at all so we bought a combination oven/grill/microwave in one.
Just a gas oven and hob in the present motorhome which we use a lot. We don't miss having a microwave and the alternative cooking methods warm the van up :xThumb:
