Converted caravanner!
Hi, noticed today some small surface cracks on drivers side front tyre. They look fairly superficial and only that small section but they are getting on, manufactured March 2019. Was hoping to sell the van next year and avoid the cost. So could I leave and monitor them regularly, replace just the fronts or go the whole hog?
Would probably go for Michelin Cross Climate Campings despite cost!

I’d be leaving them as you are thinking of getting rid of the van. In my opinion they will be fine for another year. They certainly wouldn’t fail an MOT like that.

Looks like they have been run underinflated so the tread had cracked at the edge. I would clean the tyre and apply one of those tyre shine type products from Halfords before selling.

I would be getting new tyres.

It’s an extra selling point and will show you have looked after the vehicle. I wouldn’t go for expensive ones though, I have budget all season on mine and they have been great.

If it blows out, then puts a hole in your wheel arch and leaves you stranded somewhere, it will be much more annoying and expensive.

They are also due to be changed anyway for age.

Also check between tread , they can crack and you don’t notice

Pressures good, always at recommended 70 psi.

If you do decide to change them just go for commercial tyres and not camper ones, that way you save a bit of money.

Are you trading in or selling private? If the latter, I would be inclined to replace.

Maybe keep your eyes on the classifieds here as you may pick up a set cheaper, like I did.

I had considered that but concerned about flat spotting if parked up for long periods. It gets used most months, but in the winter it could be stood for 2 months.

It’s only one tyre, front drivers side.

Still pondering…… the rears look perfect. Is it sensible to change just the fronts, though they will be different/better gripping?

I would be happy with different tyres front and back.

Just going to change my wife’s front tyres for all season on the front. There is 6mm still on the rear so won’t be changing them yet.

Bit the bullet and replaced all 4 with CrossClimate Camping. Ordered from Blackcircles £843 fitted. Did look at decent alternatives but decided it was worth paying the extra.
So will sell the rears as still have 7mm of tread and look in good condition.
