I'm new to it
Hi, could I just ask is Staveley Head a reputable insurance company ? The reason I ask is that I have just had my renewal quote from Comfort insurance and the price has gone up to £408.97 with break down cover from £348 last year. Without breakdown cover the price is £338. I have had a quote from Staveley head for £216 without any breakdown cover which I won’t need this year anyway as I’m not going abroad and have MH cover on my AA membership. Thanks

Insure with Caravan Guard and was a bit nervous about forthcoming premium given all the tales of price increases. Need not have worried as premium went down! No change in circumstances other than increased agreed value!

Usual reminder,.. If you have an A class double check the windscreen cover.
I used to have cheapish insurance on my Autotrail but windscreen was only £1500, ok on a standard coachbuilt.
When your looking to cover screens that could cost £,000's you need good cover.

I had a very similar experience, insurance has been around £300 for the last 3 year's, this year's quote £408, did the price comparison sites and most quotes coming in at around £400, except Staveley Head at £250. Did some research and decided against as they'd gone bust in 2020 I believe, and have come back as a new company.
Went with lifesure, who I've used for classic cars in the past, at £350.

Caravan guard/AIB/NFU were all way off the mark

I stayed with NFU again this year, LV were pretty close but a very strange way they quote.

Thanks very much all, very informative particularly what Bobby gg said about Staveley head.

Beware breakdown cover may insist you carry a spare wheel should you have a flat, just saying.
I do have one, never seen it as it’s under the chassis. The mot chap oiled the mounts and said it’s not new but serviceable 👍

As I now have time on my hands I’m going to look into this a little further and not just go with the cheapest but at the same time not with Comfort either. Thanks again.

Same as mine, I send my son under to check it. Side skirts so low I can't get my chest under let alone my six pack (ok barrel but there is a six pack underneath).

Mine was checked when all tyres were changed but the only way to check it or get it out is by jacking the vehicle up and then dropping the cradle holding the tyre not an easy feat

Glad I didn’t go with Staveley Head insurance as I’ve just read their trust pilot reviews and it makes for an interesting read. Here is just one of them. Yes there are some 5 star reviews but the majority in 2023 are one star and go like this one. The main problem seems to be the amount of extra paperwork they ask for and the time they give you to provide before they cancel your insurance and make extra charges on your credit card. Plus asking for certificates of fitment for things that were standard so you can’t provide. I will give them a miss 😁

Been with Comfort insurance for the last 3 years . Ours is the 2015 Delaware with modifications made aware plus dragging a toad (covered) . Just insured it at £280 .
The Greenflag company covered us with the premium plus at £105 .(We are members of the caravan club)
We are fully laden at 5 ton with modifications clearly listed .
Not sure why yours should be that high to be honest unless you have a more modern motorhome of course?

Good experience with Caravan Guard this week. Just noticed I was getting very close to my agreed mileage (9k), not enough remaining to get home across France. Phoned them expecting £25 admin charge plus premium hike, but no drama, no admin fee and just £25 to increase to the next mileage band 11k all done instantly online.

Doblo, registered as a motorcaravan, is due up for insurance, it cost more to insure than the Laika, does more mileage, but not that much. It has gone up, on renewal, by the same amount as John's car, he did look but got no better quotes elsewhere.
I will be looking, but getting good cover for a microcamper isn't easy. Might look at selling it as it is not used as a camper as much since we downsized the big van.

Request by phone, amended docs issued by email, no admin fee.
Our 2019 Burstner Iexo 736 with £13,000 pound of extras renewed again with LV 180 days a year EU use and recovery £353 and 2016 Audi A4 Avant same use and breakdown £386. 10,000 miles for the van and 6,000 miles for the car. Unlimited glass on both.
