Autotrail Cheyenne
We have some questions we'd like to throw out to you experienced peeps. First one for now is Picking up the MH on Tuesday (Autotrail Cheyenne 696SE, on 06 plate), private sale, and would like to know would it be best to empty water tank and Boiler and Treat for bacteria? Owner not sure how long tank has been since lats used (Selling for deceased father), so would like to start with some good fresh water. If answer is yes, can anyone recommend procedure and any chemicals to use?
Many thanks and more questions to follow i am sure LOL! :giggle:

:welco:

Just drain both hot & cold and treat with white vinegar or citric acid, that will descale boiler as well if you heat the water. only leave in a couple of hours as left too long it can attack the SS boiler.

Thank you both, so quite easy then. Over to Amazon to order some Citric acid.

Many Thanks Again.

We use puriclean for fresh water system. Dissolve in warm water. Fill tank leave overnight. And Fenwicks waste tank cleaner for the waste tank. Both available on line or from any good caravan accessories shop.

Interesting, Hmmm Alternative to Citric Acid!
Thank you for more food for thought.

Whichever you use, give the MH a good drive around the local roundabouts with it in the tank.
I would be tempted to do the procedure twice. Don’t forget to check the filter, might be next to the boiler and is a small glass bowl that unscrews. When you pump through from the tank it could draw up newly discharged bits.
I never trust my fresh tank for drinking water anyway, even though we have owned from new and annually clean. A couple of 5 litre water bottles can be filled freshly most days.

Additionally to cleaning the tanks I fitted an inline water filter (Whale Aqua Source Carbon water filter) to the cold pipe after the pump. Replace it every 2 years and never had a problem with the cold water in all the time we’ve been motorhoming.
