We are planning to go to Turkey next year and would like to ask what others have they have done regarding MH Insurance. My renewal is due in the next few weeks but doesn’t cover Turkey as it’s not in the EU. Got a quote from NFU which includes Turkey but the premium is double compared to others. I understand you can buy border insurance but believe it may be 3rd party only? Thoughts appreciated please?

Go somewhere else its a big big world! Plenty of nicer places, Because of Syria and the PKK Turkey is a high risk country. Tourists make an easy target!

Aren’t insurance companies strange when we took the van to Turkey last year NFU where the only ones I could find to cover me and where a lot cheaper than everyone else . You can buy 3rd party insurance at the border no problem. How good it is I don’t know. Have a great trip .

The state of this reply! It's also a very big country (37th largest in the world) and for the most part, is nowhere near Syria or any of the troubles in that part of the world. Turkiye is a beautiful country and the people are very warm and friendly. I've never gone in a motorhome before so sadly don't have an answer to the original question, but going elsewhere is a ridiculous comment and completely unhelpful to the OP.

Like Howard H we used NFU, not surprising as we were on the same trip! I think there was only one other company that covered Turkey and I think that might have been LV. They aren’t taking on new motorhome customers now so you might just have to pay up or not go.

Breakdown was a bit of a palaver as well. What they classed as the European side was OK but the Asian part no. We went with Green Flag who said they covered all of Turkey on the phone but whether they really did who knows?

We were on a tour and one of the leaders was Turkish which made us all feel better, she sorted one chap an emergency appointment at a University Dental Hospital not in a tourist area at all!

It’s an amazing country and the people are wonderful.

Which branch of NFU did you try?

We have owned a Villa in Turkey for 18 years.
LV have always been my insurers and every year I’ve got a Green Card from them for the period I’m in Turkey, at the very least 3 months, sometimes 6 months.
Things however might have changed, I’m waiting for my renewal!
With regards Brake Down a different story, despite various “ leads” that RAC covered Türkiye proved to be incorrect.
My Brake Down only covered me in the European part of Türkiye ie north of the Bosporous.
One of the reasons I was keen to take the extended warranty on my Fiat was it covered all of Turkey.
Having said that the Turkish people are very skilled at repairs and whilst we just discard items they repair.
It is not a third world country, we are!
All parts are available and labour prices are very reasonable.
Jezport, I think you’ll find that France has suffered more terrorism attacks than Türkiye but of course everybody flocks to France without a thought.
All I ask is that you check the facts than just making statements that are not based on facts.

My thoughts exactly 😁

There are only 3 or 4 that are Motorhome friendly, try Chichester.
Thanks, I phoned Chichester - they said quote will be ‘similar’ to Ipswich.

But is a country under the rule of a terrorist supporting government. Under threat from those it persecutes. Not a country I wish to support.

Whilst I understand that you wouldn't want to visit on principle, I think it's fairly safe, if anyone has been following Norally (Itchyboots) on YouTube, she has just transitted Turkey and is currently in Northern (Kurdish) Iraq, she has had no problems at all and has been shown only kindness by the locals, for those that aren't familiar with her she is a young lady (mid thirties) travelling alone on a motorcycle, on this trip she is planning to get to China overland.

I asked for Insurance advice. I did not ask for your political views. You are entitled to your opinion but this is totally irrelevant to the question I asked. I am free to visit where I choose as are you. Your political views are not for this forum.

It really was an incredible experience going there and it’s unbelievably cheap whilst you’re there. Fuel is cheap, eating out, groceries. I really would reconsider NFU. I know you said they were double other companies but the cost would be offset in part by the cheapness of everything else. We absolutely loved it.

I do hope you find a way to make it work. I’ve just remembered that we bought our breakdown through Green Flag.
